Tim Tebow: 5 Most Ridiculous Moments of Tebow Mania
Tebow Mania has gripped the nation after the second-year signal-caller has gone 6-1 this season as a starter for the Denver Broncos and has them in first place in the AFC West.
Tim Tebow has become the centerpiece of a battle between fans and analysts. Analysts have tried to reason that Tebow is too inaccurate to be a longtime NFL starter. Fans simply don't care—especially Broncos fans, who probably believe he was sent from the heavens at this point.
But one thing's for sure: Tebow Mania has taken on a life of its own.
There are few athletes who have inspired this level of fanaticism, this level of raw emotion.
In commemoration of the energy that surrounds the great Tim Tebow, I give you the five most ridiculous moments of Tebow Mania.
5. Controversy over Pro-Life Super Bowl Ad
1 of 5During last season's Super Bowl, Tim Tebow appeared in an ad funded by the socially conservative organization Focus on the Family which took a pro-life stance.
The moment it aired, it sparked a battle over the issue of abortion, with pro-life supporters rallying behind Tebow and pro-choice groups condemning the CBS ads.
Gloria Allred, attorney-at-law and president of Women's Equal Rights Legal Defense and Education Fund, basically wrote an essay to CBS asking the network to drop the ad.
Here is Tebow's story as told by his parents.
4. Tim Tebow and Merril Hoge Twitter Feud
2 of 5In early August, about the time when every analyst in America was bashing Tim Tebow, ESPN's Merril Hoge was especially harsh.
He wrote a series of tweets that appeared as if he had something against Tebow personally.
After Hoge's rant via Twitter, Tebow tweeted back, "Hey Merril....'ppreciate that."
Even the Miami Heat's LeBron James got into the action, tweeting, "Guys get on that TV and act like they was all WORLD when they played. How bout encouraging him and wishing him the best instead of hating!!"
I don't hear much from Hoge these days regarding Tebow, but I'm pretty sure he's questioning the meaning of life at this point.
3. Tebow Mania Hits Walmart
3 of 5In June, it was announced that Tebow would be signing his new autobiography, Through My Eyes, at the Archer Road Walmart in Gainesville, Fla.
Despite his book signing being at 6 p.m. on a Thursday, some fans started a line at midnight on Wednesday.
By the time his book signing came around, 600 people were reportedly in line, with 200 to 300 more forming a separate line case he had time to sign all 600 autographs. Beyond this, about 250 more people crowded around the signing podium as onlookers.
Franz Beard of GaitorBait.net wrote, "This was like the anticipation for a rock star."
2. 'Play Tebow' Billboard Goes Up in Denver
4 of 5In September, a group of Broncos fans vowed to put up "We Want Tim Tebow!" billboards in Denver as the Broncos' quarterback situation was being sorted out in the preseason.
But Multiline International Imports beat them to it.
In fact, the company surrendered its own advertisement to install several rotating images on the billboard, including "It's Tebow Time" and "Welcome To Tebow Land."
The billboard even predicted the Broncos would beat the Green Bay Packers in Week 4, 24-17 (the Broncos lost, 49-23).
But something tells me Multiline International Imports made far more money marketing Tebow than marketing its own products.
1. Fan Gets 'Tebow Time' Tattoo
5 of 5How do you honor a man you've never met in your life but feel a strong connection to?
Why, get a tattoo of him on your body, of course.
I could see the "Tebow Time" tattoos coming from a mile away, but this particular tattoo was simply ridiculous.
Really? A half-man, half-Bronco holding a football with a helmet on?
That makes me worry about whoever that individual is.
