Baylor's Robert Griffin for Heisman: 2011 Highlight Video
The Heisman Trophy will be awarded this Saturday to either Montee Ball, Tyrann Mathieu, Trent Richardson, Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III.
In recent years, the prestigious trophy has gone to the best player on the best team, but that trend may all change because of “RG3.” The Baylor quarterback has 3,998 yards passing for 36 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions, which makes him the most efficient passer in the country.
But he can also burn teams using his legs. He has 644 yards on the ground with an additional nine scores, but it is impossible to measure how many times his scrambling ability affected a drive or an entire game. He ranks second in the country in total yards per game this season.
Here’s a video of just some of the things he has been able to do this season. Prepare to be amazed.
And this year has just been the icing on the cake because Griffin is one of only four players ever to accumulate 9,000 yards passing and 2,000 yards rushing in his career. And he is only a junior!
Baylor ended the regular season 9-3 and ranked 12th in the final BCS Standings with wins over Mountain West champion TCU, then No. 5 Oklahoma and then No. 22 Texas. All of those wins were almost entirely because of Griffin. The defense ranks 109th in the country in scoring and 114th in yards allowed, but the offense is sixth and second in those respective categories.
Robert Griffin III should win the 2011 Heisman Trophy.
