Bulls Rumors: Caron Butler Is Not Answer for Chicago's Hole at SG

Wes ODonnellDec 7, 2011

There is no team with a more pressing need at any position than the Chicago Bulls's need for a shooting guard.

Derrick Rose and the Bulls are a dominant defensive team with the reigning NBA MVP at the point.

But their starting 2-guard, Keith Bogans, is hardly a starting anything. He's a solid role player but far from a starter.

According to a report from ESPN Chicago, the Bulls met with 31-year-old Caron Butler yesterday and things went well:

"

A league source termed the meetings with Butler as "positive." ... "That went great," Butler tweeted after his meeting with Bulls personnel. "Now headed to the west ..."

Butler and his agent met with the Clippers on Monday night. His meeting with Los Angeles went so well, the two sides decided to talk again on Tuesday morning, Butler's agent Raymond Brothers told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne.

"

This is good news for the Bulls.

The nine-year veteran small forward is a health liability and not the answer the Bulls need at shooting guard.

Other options, such as current Chinese players Wilson Chandler and J.R. Smith will be available eventually, and Jason Richardson and former Bulls guard Jamal Crawford are also available.

All four bring different aspects to the court but are options for a Bulls team that needs to make some kind of move.

Reaching for Butler isn't the move though. As gifted a scorer as he can be, there are too many risks that involve giving him a long-term contract.

Expect the Bulls to explore all options, but Butler won't be their man.
