NBA Trade Rumors: Will the Orlando Magic Land Deron Williams or Chris Paul?
The Magic haven't given up hope of keeping their big man in Orlando, and their willing to try and bring the best available little man to do it.
CBS Sports is reporting that the Magic are in pursuit of both Deron Williams and Chris Paul. I can't imagine what assets the Magic would have to be able to acquire Williams. Orlando would likely make anyone available except for Dwight Howard.
The best Orlando has to offer is Jameer Nelson, Brandon Bass and JJ Redick. None of these players are enticing enough for New Jersey to try to sell to their new Brooklyn-based fans. One good thing is that Bass' and Nelson's contracts come off the books at the end of 2011-2012, but it still seems far-fetched.
As far as acquiring Chris Paul, this seems more likely, but certainly not a shoo-in. The Magic package figures to appeal more to New Orleans, who more or less seems to just want to stay competitive.
The Nets' eyes are much bigger than just competing. The Nets desperately want to keep Deron Williams but, if they fear they will lose him, I would think they would be more inclined to build through the draft and not saddle themselves with the likes of JJ Redick's contract.
Unless they covet Redick, and more importantly Nelson, it will be difficult to see the Nets jumping at this deal. Right now, these rumors are much ado about nothing.
Until one of the big names of this time period is actually moved, it is all just a guessing game.
