Georgia Football Recruiting 2012: Keith Marshall & Top Commitments and Targets

Edwin WeathersbyDec 6, 2011

The Georgia Bulldogs 2012 recruiting cycle has been steady. They have several commitments from some very, very talented players. But today was a huge day for Mark Richt and the Dawgs.

They got a huge commitment, one from a 5-star RB that they've been allured by for quite some time. Come inside and see who it is.

Let's talk some UGA recruiting.

It's Official...

Today was the day for 5-star RB Keith Marshall to announce. Florida, Clemson, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and North Carolina had all been in contention for most of the run.

Marshall decided this morning that Georgia was his destination. This is a huge get for UGA, as Marshall will team with Isaiah Crowell next year and form a dangerous RB tandem.

The 5'11", 190 pounder has 4.32 speed, quickness, vision and a style I compare a bit to LeSean McCoy.

Key Commitment: John Theus, OT

Before Marshall pledged today, Georgia's clear-cut headliner was one John Theus. A force in the trenches at 6'6", 295 pounds, Theus excels at drive blocking and has the ability to finish.

Solid in pass protection, I think Theus' best spot is right tackle. He can play left tackle, for sure, but he plays nasty in the run game, snaps his hips upon contact and seems like a better fit on the right side of the front.

He moves targets off their marks with ease, has quick feet and plays physical at the point of attack. Theus could contend for a starting job as a freshman.

Young Still Looking Hard at UGA

Avery Young has family ties to Georgia, as he is the cousin of former Dawg LB/SS Thomas Davis.

The Bulldogs are recruiting Young hard and the thought of signing two 5-star OTs in Young and current commit John Theus is a grand coup. 6'6", 275 pounds, Young was in November 19th to check out Georgia up close and personal.

Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Florida seem to be the main four schools in the race.

Key Commitment: Jonathan Taylor, DT

4 of 5

6'4" and nearly 320 pounds, Jonathan Taylor is a mammoth DT with a ceiling higher than the release on Dirk Nowitzki's jump shot.

Very quick off the ball and powerful at the point of attack, Taylor has "wow you" type athletic ability and potential. Raw is a word commonly attached to his name, yet with the coaching and seasoning he will get in Athens, look for Taylor to develop into a top-caliber DT in the middle.

Georgia beat out Florida State, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Florida and Auburn, among others.

Jordan Jenkins Had Great Trip to Athens

"The Freak" is talked up as the best player in the Peach State this year. He's a 6'3", 250-pound DE that can also kick out to stand-up OLB in a 30-front scheme like Georgia's.

Jenkins' recruitment by Georgia has been a roller coaster. UGA's recent red carpet official trip for Jenkins gave him a new perspective.

The trip was excellent and now UGA has made up substantial ground to Alabama and Florida. A decision will be made likely in January.
