Recruit Talk: Najee Murray

There are tons of new names surfacing in the 2012 class now that Urban Meyer is at the helm, which definitely has Buckeye Nation buzzing about the future. While that excitement is definitely warranted, fans shouldn't forget about some of the talent on board already in this class. One of those guys is Steubenville's Najee Murray.

Murray was technically the first commitment for Luke Fickell in mid-June, thanks to his breakout performance in camp. Many overlooked his commitment at the time, partially due to the slew of allegations that were swirling around Columbus at the time, but Murray's senior season has made people take notice. In fact he was named a D-III first team All-Ohio selection as well as defensive co-player of the year. It's also no coincidence that Scout.com recently elevated him to a four star prospect.

Personally, I'm a fan of how Murray plays the game so I was thrilled to get the opportunity to chat it up with him about his senior season, the coaching change, and his future. Here is what he had to say:

1) Talk a little about your senior season. How do you think you performed?

I had an fantastic senior season. Me and the team ended coming up a little short against Mooney, but we gave it our all.

2) You were named a D-III first team All-Ohio selection as well as defensive co-player of the year?. How did that feel?

It felt great to be named with those awards. I couldn't of done it without my coaches and team.

3) Are there any players currently in college or the NFL you compare your game to?

I would like to compare my game to Tyrann Mathieu.

4) What was your initial reaction to Urban Meyer being named the coach at Ohio State?

I wasn't really shocked about it because of all the rumors out here. But once I did hear he got the job, I was really excited.

5) Have you had any contact with Coach Meyer yet?

No I haven't talked to him yet. Coach Vrabel came in last week to talk to me though.

6) You were technically Luke Fickell's first commitment. How important was it to you that he stayed on the staff?

It was very important for Coach Fickell stayed on the staff. Being the first means a lot and I feel very relieved since he stayed.

7) Are there any other Buckeye commitments/recruits you chat it up with?

I usually talk to Frank (Epitropoulos) everyday. I also chat with Tyvis (Powell) and De'van (Bogard) on Twitter here or there.

8) What are looking forward to the most next season as a Buckeye?

I'm just looking to be a Buckeye next year and to do whatever is needed of me.
