Week 14 Waiver Wire Pickups: 3 RBs to Help You Sprint Past Competition

Ryan RudnanskyDec 6, 2011

It's getting down to the wire, but there's still hope for you yet, fantasy football fanatics.

In Week 13 of the NFL season, three widely available running backs produced and gave desperate fantasy owners some hope, especially those who are hurting after the loss of the injured Adrian Peterson.

Here are three running backs to help you down the stretch.

3. Donald Brown, RB, Indianapolis Colts

I'm not the biggest fan of Brown, but he has been surpassing Colts starter Joseph Addai and he got 14 carries in Week 13 against the New England Patriots, contributing 41 yards and a touchdown.

This was after Brown went for 80 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers.

You could do worse than Brown.

2. Dexter McCluster, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

I suggested McCluster a couple of weeks ago, but nobody wanted to listen to me.

But McCluster is showing signs of coming to life and he rushed for 61 yards against the Chicago Bears in Week 13. Plus, he grabbed four balls for 46 yards and a touchdown.

He faces a New York Jets team that allowed Washington Redskins rookie Roy Helu to rush for 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 13.

1. Toby Gerhart, RB, Minnesota Vikings

This depends on Adrian Peterson's availability in Week 14, but it's likely Peterson will be held out at least one more week.

In Peterson's absence, Toby Gerhart has scored in double-figures in consecutive weeks. Against the Denver Broncos in Week 13, Gerhart rushed for 91 yards and caught eight passes for 42 yards.

Gerhart doesn't face the best matchup against the Detroit Lions in Week 14, but the fact remains that the Vikings are giving him plenty of carries and he's running awfully hard.
