NBA Rumors: Gigantic Rumors That Will Never Come to Fruition
The NBA rumor mill is spinning at a ridiculously fast rate as December 9th quickly approaches.
Big names are being tossed around as potential franchise-shifting trades are being speculated. It’s the sort of fantasy that makes fans giddy with joy, but in reality can’t happen due to factors like money and team chemistry.
Here are two that probably aren’t happening during the 2011-12 season. (Hint: Both of them involve a player that goes by the name CP3.)
Rajon Rondo Is Staying in Boston
The Chris Paul-for-Rondo rumors really started heating up last week, as Paul turns into this year’s Carmelo Anthony.
Problem is, the Celtics have absolutely no speed outside of Rondo and their chemistry would take a severe hit. The rumors can be squashed as Rondo’s agent confirmed to the Boston Herald that his client isn’t going anywhere.
With Paul’s preferred destination being the Knicks to play with his buddies ‘Melo and Amare Stoudemire, it was a real stretch to think he would want to play with a Celtics team that’s aging by the minute. His window for a title would be much smaller than with the Knicks.
Consider the rumor squashed.
Chris Paul Is Not Going to the Knicks This Season
The Knicks have two monster contracts in addition to paying Chauncey Billups $11 million. Do you think the Hornets are interested in taking on that much money for a 35-year-old?
The Hornets want young players that have the potential to turn into stars in exchange for Paul. The Knicks have guys like Bill Walker and Jared Jeffries available for trade. The king’s ransom they had to pay for ‘Melo has left the talent cupboard empty.
Do you think New Orleans is in a rush to give up the face of the franchise and the player that helped New Orleans cope with Hurricane Katrina for a couple of bench players?
The Knicks have six months to figure out how they can fit Paul in their budget in the offseason because they won’t be acquiring Paul this season.
