Chargers vs. Jaguars: Philip Rivers' Legacy on the Line Against Hapless Jaguars

Philip Rivers will suit up once again and attempt to lead his team to victory, something he has failed to do all too often in 2011. 

There are a great many things on the line, and they all rest on the San Diego sideline. The Chargers have moved their usual slow start to a disastrous end as they have dropped six straight. 

That dismal showing has Norv Turner on the hot seat and Philip Rivers on the wrong side of fans' opinions. Rivers has long been seen as a superstar going to waste in San Diego. 

He has been a delight for the past few years as the Chargers remain stagnant as a promising club that is forever a step or two short of ultimate glory. That seemed to be where his legacy would go as he inches toward the 30-year mark. 

Now a puzzling new chapter is rearing its ugly head. Rivers has taken a few steps back this season as he is mediocre when he's not problematic. 

His throws are errant and anything but precise, but what's more troubling are the turnovers. The fumbles at the line and head-scratching decisions are what has fans worried that Rivers is playing like anyone but himself. 

So what will Rivers be known of in the next few months? What will be the headlines that we see in someone who was once a Chargers hero?

It all rests against in a Monday night game against a hapless bunch in the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags are playing for nothing and have been just as awful in their efforts this year. 

If Rivers once again hands the ball to his opponents and fails to win this game, he is a goat. It would have been laughable to deride Rivers for anything in the last few years. 

Now he is one of the main reasons this team is floundering to another lost season. The Chargers should beat the Jaguars. Rivers should be a joy to watch. 

But if he isn't, we will be hearing about the horrendous exploits from this meager season.
