NBA Free Agents 2011: Top Veteran Target to Boost Boston Celtics Title Hopes

Matt ShetlerDec 5, 2011

The Boston Celtics aren't getting any younger.

The window on them bringing home another title to Boston is closing fast as their Big Three are getting up there in age.

Not only that, but Danny Ainge faces some tough decisions on the likes of Glen Davis, Jeff Green, Delonte West, Von Wafer and others.

Most importantly, while guards Shannon Brown and Anthony Parker have been linked to Boston in one way or another, truth of the matter is that the Celtics have a bigger need.

Adding guard depth is necessary as well, but Boston wasn't the same team after the Kendrick Perkins trade at the deadline. And with Davis uncertain to return, the Celtics are in desperate need of size.

Targeting a big guy or two makes perfect sense and one guy on their radar should be Reggie Evans.

They aren't going to be players for a Tyson Chandler or Marc Gasol at the moment, but adding a banger needs to be a priority.

Evans would fit in well as a Celtic as he's a tough, physical interior defender. He also will instantly help solve Boston's rebounding troubles. Evans was one of the NBA's leaders in rebounds per minute and grabbed a career-best 11.5 per game last season for the Raptors.

He has played only 58 games over the past two years because of injuries, including foot surgery last season, which is a concern but is said to be as healthy as he's been in years.

Evans brings to the table exactly what the Celtics need: toughness, defense and rebounding.

Adding some more scoring punch would be nice, but the top priority has to be getting better defensively down low and becoming a better rebounding team.

Signing Evans would go a long way to making that happen.
