Week 14 Waiver Wire: Rex Grossman and Others You Must Add from Every Position

Zach KruseDec 5, 2011

On the Week 14 waiver wire, the following players—one from each position—are good additions:

QB Rex Grossman, Redskins

You add Grossman in Week 14 for the simple reason that he plays the Patriots pass defense. Ranked dead last in the NFL, New England made even Dan Orlovsky look like Dan Marino on Sunday as he completed a staggering 30-of-37 passes. While Grossman laid an egg last week against the Jets, you can expect him to rebound against New England.

RB Marion Barber, Bears

Barber was getting carries in the Bears offense before Matt Forte went down last week with an MCL sprain. Now that Forte is out two to six weeks, Barber will be the lead dog in the Bears backfield. When you add in the fact that the Bears are running it more with Jay Cutler out, Barber could be a starting ready option for you to grab on the waiver wire this week.

WR Riley Cooper, Eagles

Getting both Michael Vick and Jeremy Maclin back could actually hurt Cooper's fantasy status, but there's no way a 4-8 team should cut down on looks for a guy that has been consistently as good as Cooper has been over the past three weeks. During that span, which was all with Vince Young under center, Cooper had over 250 yards receiving. If Vick returns and continues to get Cooper the ball at a similar rate, he's a worthy pickup in almost any sized league.

TE Jacob Tamme, Colts

There is a touch of optimism here with the showing of Dan Orlovsky on Sunday against the Patriots. Tamme has at least five catches in two of his last three games. Still, the waiver wire is pretty dry when it comes to tight ends.

DEF/ST Broncos

Yes, the Broncos just gave up 32 points and 381 passing yards to Christian Ponder on Sunday in Minnesota. But you have to love the matchup with the Bears this weekend, as Chicago will travel to Denver without both Jay Cutler and Matt Forte. The Broncos should get Von Miller back, too.

K David Akers, 49ers

The 49ers offense is better this season, but they've had some problems inside the red zone. Akers has been the beneficiary. On Sunday against the Rams, Akers was 4-for-4 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points. That's a big day for a kicker.
