UFC 140 Fight Card: Betting Odds and Predictions for the Main Card

G DDec 5, 2011

On Saturday, December 10th, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will travel to Toronto, Canada for one of the most anticipated fight cards of the year in UFC 140.

UFC 140 can be viewed live on pay-per-view television beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT and 9:00 p.m. ET.

In the main event of the evening, the youngest champion in UFC history will put his light heavyweight title up for grabs against the highly dangerous Lyoto Machida.

Also featured on the Canadian fight card is Frank Mir, who will meet Antonio Nogueira for a second time inside the Octagon.

In total, there will be five main-card fights throughout the evening in Toronto. The following slides display predictions and betting odds for every main-card fight.

Let's take a look.

Mark Hominick vs. Chan Sung Jung

1 of 5

Odds: Chan Sung Jung +280; Mark Hominick -400

In the first bout of the main card at UFC 140, highly talented boxer Mark Hominick will look to put his striking skills to use against Chan Sung Jung.

The featherweight bout between Hominick and Sung Jung will be black and white, as Hominick holds the clear advantage in the stand up, while Sung Jung is an exceptional submission artist.

When action begins, Sung Jung will have to prove he can exchange strikes with the "boxer at heart" in Hominick or else his night could end fairly early.

However, Hominick will need to establish a solid defensive scheme as he won't want to battle it out on the ground.

While this bout may last longer than some will expect, fans can expect Hominick to finish off Sung Jung before the final bell rings.

Prediction: Hominick by R3 TKO

Brian Ebersole vs. Claude Patrick

2 of 5

Odds: Claude Patrick -115; Brian Ebersole -125

In the second of two welterweight bouts at UFC 140, highly experienced Brian Ebersole will enter the Octagon to take on Claude Patrick.

The bout was originally supposed to be between Ebersole and Rory MacDonald, but it was scratched due to a McDonald injury.

Ebersole will be the clear aggressor when this 170-pound matchup gets underway, as he's skilled in nearly every aspect of mixed martial arts.

However, Ebersole needs to be very careful Patrick doesn't catch him, as he's been defeated via submission nine times in his career.

If Ebersole can survive on the ground, he should pound out a grueling decision victory.

Prediction: Ebersole by Unanimous Decision

Tito Ortiz vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

3 of 5

Odds: Tito Ortiz +175; Antonio Rogerio Nogueira -225

Tito Ortiz will step foot inside the Octagon looking to keep his long-lived mixed martial arts career alive when he meets Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 140 on December 10th.

Not only will Ortiz be fighting for his job in the UFC but also to prove he still has what it takes to be a legitimate contender in the light heavyweight division.

His opponent, Nogueira, is a fairly well-rounded fighter as he can exchange in the stand up or control the fight from the ground.

However, if Ortiz wants to prevent losing for the sixth time in his last eight bouts, he'll need to establish a strong attack on his feet.

It's likely Nogueira will feel more comfortable battling it out from the ground, as Ortiz must prove he can still grapple with the best.

If Ortiz can do this, he could refuel his fire to be a 205-pound contender.

Prediction: Ortiz by Unanimous Decision

Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

4 of 5

Odds: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira +210; Frank Mir -250

Also joining his brother on the UFC 140 fight card is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who will look to seek revenge on a previous defeat to Frank Mir at UFC 92.

It will be extremely interesting to see how both Nogueira and Mir react inside the Octagon, as both are two of the best submission artists in mixed martial arts history.

However, neither Nogueira or Mir have ever been submitted in their careers.

Therefore, it's likely the winner of Nogueira vs. Mir will end the fight via knockout, or they'll find themselves awaiting a judge's decision.

Regardless, Mir has the slight advantage in the stand up and will look to use that edge when action begins in their heavyweight showdown.

If Nogueira can't successfully defend against Mir's strikes, he could find himself in a world of trouble early.

Prediction: Mir by R2 TKO

Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida

5 of 5

Odds: Lyoto Machida +355; Jon Jones -445

In the most anticipated bout of the evening at UFC 140, Jon "Bones" Jones will look to successfully defend his light heavyweight title against No. 1 contender Lyoto Machida.

Jones is the clear favorite heading into the main event, as he is one of the most well-rounded fighters in mixed martial arts history.

"Bones" also holds a clear reach and height advantage, with an 84'' reach.

However, Machida is no slouch as he will look to use his karate and jiu-jitsu skills in a way Jones is uncomfortable with.

Regardless, Machida will need to prove from the get-go that he belongs in the same Octagon as Jones by exchanging strikes in the stand up.

Machida will need to use a variety of kicks and combinations to keep the current champ off guard.

But, even with the skills of Machida, Jones' talent is rare and will be too much for his opponent to handle.

Prediction: Jones by R2 TKO
