Insight Bowl 2011: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Richard LangfordDec 5, 2011

Oklahoma originally had its sight set on a much bigger bowl game than the Insight Bowl. Nevertheless, here the Sooners are with a date against the Big Ten's Iowa Hawkeyes.

Iowa made this game after compiling a 7-5 regular season record. The Hawkeyes were selected for this game when the Insight Bowl committee decided to pass on controversy-riddled Penn State.

This is a huge showcase for Iowa. The Hawkeyes are big underdogs, but if they can pull off the upset, they will get a huge jump start on an offseason of recruiting.

Betting Line: Oklahoma -16 (according to Kegs 'n Eggs)

Key Storyline: Can Oklahoma bounce back from end-of-season blowout?

At one time this year, the Sooners were the nation's No. 1 team. However, they fell apart in the end of the season. They were only .500 over their last six games, and they lost two of their last three.

No loss was more embarrassing than their end of the season 44-10 trouncing by Oklahoma State.

As a result, the Sooners are playing in a much lesser bowl game than they had envisioned. It will be interesting to see if they can get up for and focus on this game.

What They're Saying: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops will be facing a program and coach that he has connections to. Jack Magruder of Fox Sports has more on this.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has deep roots in Iowa. He was a four-year starting defensive back for the Hawkeyes and one of the Big Ten’s MVP's in 1982. He was a candidate for both the Oklahoma and Iowa jobs when they came open in 1999, and he said he interviewed at Iowa before accepting an offer from Oklahoma later that day. Iowa hired current coach Kirk Ferentz two days later.

“I hate the fact that we are playing each other, but hey, it’s a bowl game. It’ll work out,” Stoops said. “(Ferentz) and I got our jobs at the same time, and I’ve always admired the way he coaches. It’s been fun to watch them have such good years as well.”

Key Matchup: Oklahoma QB Landry Jones vs. Iowa Defense

If Iowa is going to be competitive in this game, then it has to contain Jones and the Sooners' passing game. Oklahoma will enter this game fourth in the nation is passing yards.

Meanwhile, Iowa's pass defense has struggled. In a largely running conference, Iowa has allowed 2,737 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and has picked off just nine passes.

On the Hot Seat: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops

Stoops isn't in danger of losing his job, but this is a big game for him nonetheless. He needs to prove he can have his team ready to play in a bowl game against a team the Sooners should handle easily.

Oklahoma's late season slide was alarming. Stoops must right the ship to end the season. His career record in bowl games stands at 6-6. He has won two in a row to get back to .500. He doesn't want to see that dip below that mark here.

Prediction: Oklahoma 42, Iowa 24

Oklahoma's passing offense is just too much for Iowa to withstand. Landry Jones is headed for a big day in what will likely be his last showcase before jumping to the NFL draft, and he is going to put up some big numbers.
