Why Matt Forte Injury Means Chicago Bears Must Call Donovan McNabb

Chris TrapassoDec 5, 2011

The Chicago Bears are in trouble.

Big trouble.

Jay Cutler is out for at least the remainder of the season with a broken thumb and during a 10-3 defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, their second straight loss, offensive backbone Matt Forte sprained his MCL and could be out a month or more.

Caleb Hanie, has done a rather poor job in his two replacement starts.

He threw three interceptions in a winnable game in Week 12 against the Raiders and was 11-of-24 for 133 yards with three more picks against the Chiefs this week.

Time for Donovan McNabb, Bears fans.

I called for it when he was cut last week and Hanie's lackluster play in consecutive games greatly helps my argument.

Don't get me wrong, I've watched McNabb over the last two seasons and he hasn't been good. Period.

He didn't seem inspired during his time in Minnesota this season, was often late or inaccurate with his throws and the Vikings got off to a terrible start.

But, honestly, think to yourself—is Hanie really the better option?

I don't think so.

What we know for sure is that the Bears need an answer at quarterback and Hanie has done absolutely nothing that would make anyone think he's that guy.

Now that Forte is gone for at least two or three games, why not give McNabb a shot?

He's well past his prime, but I believe he can be a game manager at this point and certainly has more playmaking ability than Hanie.

Definitely more threatening to opposing defenses, right?

At least get No. 5 in for a workout.

What else are they going to do?
