Week 14 Waiver Wire: 5 Pickups Guaranteed to Win Your Week

Donald WoodDec 5, 2011

Fantasy folks, this is the greatest time of the year. The beginning of the fantasy football playoff season is here.

That’s why it’s extra important this week to utilize the waiver wire in your league to ensure you give yourself the best chance to steal the show this fantasy postseason.

Don’t think twice about dropping duds at this point of the season, because if you don’t win, you go home.

This is the time of the season when the bold steal the show and the conservative players get sent home early. Good luck to one and all this week!

Christian Ponder

1 of 5

The Minnesota Vikings got the reassurance that they had hoped for from Christian Ponder when they put him in as starter over now defunct Donovan McNabb Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Ponder put up an amazing 381 yards passing with three touchdowns. Despite two interceptions, that day netted Ponder with around 30 points in most fantasy leagues.

While many playoffs teams are set when it comes to the quarterback position, teams that had Cutler, Bradford or Cassel may be desperate at this point. Ponder is worth the risk.

Demaryius Thomas

2 of 5

While Demaryius Thomas is a walking band-aid, the Denver Broncos need that No. 2 receiver that can capitalize on the opposition’s attention to Eric Decker.

With Thomas back in the lineup after another injury, Tim Tebow looked to him on seven pass attempts. Despite only catching four passes, Thomas had 144 yards and two touchdowns.

If the duo of Tebow and Thomas can continue that dominance against the Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos and your fantasy team will walk away victorious.

Matt Moore

3 of 5

Very rarely do I ever put two QBs on the waiver-wire watch list, but this week is a special occasion. Matt Moore and the Dolphins are playing too well to ignore.

With five straight victories, Matt Moore has been leading the offense in a way that is both beneficial to his team and to you fantasy team.

While the game against Oakland didn’t provide fantasy owners with much, it’s only because the Dolphins did their damage early. Moore has five touchdowns over his last three games and looks to add plenty of yards when the Dolphins are down.

Golden Tate

4 of 5

With the season-ending concussion to Sidney Rice and Mike Williams’ inability to have the No. 1 job, the spot is Golden Tate’s to lose.

Tate’s audition was last week. While he didn’t catch as many passes as he would have liked (just four), he was a key part of offensive drives that put the Eagles away on Thursday night.

The Seahawks are using him in the red zone as well, with Tate scoring a touchdown in each of his last two games. This is a good pickup that could help more as the playoffs continue as well.

Dexter McCluster

5 of 5

While you shouldn’t expect touchdowns from McCluster every week, the Kansas City Chiefs running back/receiver utility tool can get you big fantasy points.

McCluster will get 8-10 rushing attempts every single game. With a yards per attempt average of 4.7 and ridiculous speed, you can expect at least 50 yards on the ground each game.

It’s true that in standard leagues, McCluster’s performances don’t break the bank, bit in PPR leagues, he is lights out. Add four catches for 45 yards and you have another 8.5 points on top of anything he does rushing.
