NBA Trade Rumors: Reasons Chris Paul Trade Talk Will Never Die Down
Chris Paul trade rumors have reached an unprecedented level of hype over the past week or so, and it will only get worse from here on out.
Paul is one of the best point guards in the league, and once news hit that his future with the New Orleans Hornets was more than in doubt, rumors ran rampant. As time goes on, one would expect such madness to die down, but that just won't be the case.
When it comes to a player of Paul's caliber, quieting the rumor mill is just not an option, and here's why.
Chris Paul May Have Already Asked for a Trade
Adrian Wojnarowski and Mark J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported that Paul's agent allegedly asked the Hornets for a trade to New York, sending not only the Knicks and their fans, but the rest of the basketball world into a frenzy.
Ever since Paul's infamous wedding toast last summer, the point guard has been pegged as the next superstar to join the Knicks. This latest development only strengthens such speculation.
Until either Paul or the Knicks announce that they will not seek a union, this part of the rumor mill will continue to run wild.
Chris Paul is More Likely to Be Traded Than Deron Williams or Dwight Howard
When the New Jersey Nets traded for Deron Williams, they had no intention of trading if he didn't sign an extension right away.
While the team hoped he might, they were prepared to take a gamble and let his contract ride out, and make a pitch once again next summer.
The Orlando Magic are a slightly different story, but given what Dwight Howard means to the team, there is a chance that they opt to hold onto him.
When it comes to Paul, though, he seems as good as gone. His supposed trade request indicates that he is not even open to re-upping with the Hornets, whereas both Williams and Howard have not ruled out returning to their respective teams.
Just like it was known that Anthony would leave Denver, we are aware that Paul's tenure is New Orleans is reaching its conclusion. And given that information, trade rumors are not about to die down any time soon.
Rajon Rondo Rumors Were Only the Beginning
When word hit that the Boston Celtics were keen on the idea of moving Rajon Rondo as part of a trade package for Paul, we got our first taste of an actual offer-included trade rumor.
While it turns out that such a deal will never come to fruition, it is the first of many surprising developments we are likely to incur. When a player of Paul's caliber is available, every team begins to re-think its structure and direction.
Who will be offered next in exchange for Paul? That much is unclear, but it is this lack of clarity that ensures the rumors will never cease as long as the point guard remains in New Orleans
