College Football Bowl Schedule: Boise State and Schools Held Down by BCS

Donald WoodDec 5, 2011

Every season, the same issues arise with the BCS computers and the selections they make all season. When it comes to selecting bowls, things get even worse.

There are teams like Boise State and Baylor that are getting no respect this year, but as long as the BCS is making money off their precious SEC rematch for the National Title it doesn’t matter.

All of the following teams have a reason to hold a grudge, and all deserve better than they got. And BCS officials wonder why people hate the system.

No. 7 Boise State

The Boise State Broncos are one of the best teams in the entire country. While their BCS ranking is No. 7, it is the perfect example of why the BCS rankings are a fraud.

Boise State is better than both the two-loss teams in front of them and there is a case to be made that the Broncos are better than everyone but Alabama.

Nope. The BCS ranked them No. 7 and gave them a bid to the MAACO Bowl in Las Vegas. The people in charge knew the big bowls would draw if Boise State was involved so they gave them a second-tier bowl to keep them quiet. The BCS is garbage.

No. 12 Baylor

The Baylor Bears led by Heisman contender Robert Griffin III had an amazing year despite having a schedule that included six ranked teams.

While the Bears did lose three games this season, the play of Griffin and the abilities of this team should have gotten them included in a more illustrious bowl than the VALERO Alamo Bowl.

With this Alamo Bowl being the primetime game on Thursday, December 29, this can be the Heisman coming out party that Robert Griffin needs to throw.

No. 18 TCU

With just two losses on the season, the TCU Horned Frogs took everyone by surprise this season after losing a big chuck of last year’s starters; including quarterback Andy Dalton.

After a heartbreaking loss to Baylor in Week 1, the Horned Frogs brought their best and whipped up on the competition from then on, including Boise State. Besides one hiccup against Southern Methodist, TCU has shown that they are one of the best teams in the nation.

All TCU had to do in order to ensure a BCS bowl berth was finish in the top 16, but the BCS computers felt that wouldn’t have been prudent despite all of the team’s success. The Horned Frogs will play in the Poinsettia Bowl instead.
