BCS Bowl Games: What We Love & Hate About Every BCS Bowl Matchup

Joe PenkalaDec 4, 2011

Now that the final BCS rankings have been announced and the BCS games have been decided, college football fans can start to breakdown the matchups that will unfold in January.

Between the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl and National Championship there are a lot of talented teams and some great games that should go down to the wire.

Here is a look at what college football fans will love and what they will hate about each BCS game.

LSU vs Alabama: What We Love

1 of 10

What we have to love about the National Championship matchup is the fact that it is between two of the nation's elite. The Tide and the Tigers are so closely matched that it took overtime to decide their first game in November.

Both of these two teams play in one of the strongest conference in the land and if you love hard-nosed defensive football, this game will be a must see.

Oregon vs Wisconsin: What We Love

2 of 10

With the Ducks and Badgers going at it for the roses in January, if you are a fan of offense, this is your game.

On the one hand, the Oregon Ducks have one of the most unique and fast paced offenses in the nation. They have speed all over the field and score in a hurry.

If the offense on Oregon's side of the ball isn't enough, Wisconsin is no slouch. The Badgers will arrive in California with Russell Wilson and Montee Ball who can put up points with the best of them.

Michigan vs Virginia Tech: What We Love

3 of 10

What people have to love about this matchup is the return of Michigan to a BCS game. After going through dark times with Rich Rodriguez as the head coach, Michigan brought in Brady Hoke and have immediately bounced back with a 10-win season.

While not everyone is a fan of the Maize and Blue, the Michigan brand is known nationwide and the Sugar Bowl knows that the fans will travel for this game.

Oklahoma State vs Stanford: What We Love

4 of 10

When taking a look at the Fiesta Bowl, you have to again love the offenses that will be on display when these two teams get together.

Stanford will enter the game with Andrew Luck, who many expect to be the top pick in this spring's NFL Draft. Luck has the ability to make all the throws and has BCS experience from last year's Orange Bowl.

Oklahoma State will also light up the scoreboard as their offense is capable of scoring from anywhere on the field, regardless of whether they go to the air or move the ball on the ground.

Clemson vs West Virginia: What We Love

5 of 10

What fans have to love about this game is the fact that Clemson worked their way back into the BCS equation.

Early on in the year, Clemson was winning big game after big game but then had the bottom fall out. After dropping three games, the Tigers clinched a spot in the ACC title game and with a win over Virginia Tech, punched their ticket to the Orange Bowl.

LSU vs Alabama: What We Hate

6 of 10

As much as people might love the defensive battle that occurred in November, the fact remains that we have already seen this movie. The Crimson Tide had their shot at LSU at home and still could not manage to make the plays necessary to win the game.

Despite not winning their conference title, in fact not even playing for it, Alabama held off Oklahoma State and secured a spot in the national title game.

Haven't we all learned that the sequel is never as good as the original?

Oregon vs Wisconsin: What We Hate

7 of 10

What we hate is that this game will be played on January 2nd.

Fans have grown up with the Rose Bowl and know it as part of the New Year's Day schedule. Many memories and legends have been created on New Year's Day but due to the fact that it would fall on a Sunday, the BCS decided not to compete with the NFL and moved it to the 2nd.

Michigan vs Virginia Tech: What We Hate

8 of 10

As much as people may be excited about either team, what we hate about this game is the fact that there were other at-large teams that appeared to be more deserving than either team.

While Virginia Tech and Michigan both had great years, neither team produced a win over a Top 10 team and appeared to go through most of their out of conference schedule untested.

Oklahoma State vs Stanford: What We Hate

9 of 10

What we hate about this game has little to do with either team but rather the fact that Oklahoma State is in this game.

While LSU certainly deserves their spot in the title game, the Cowboys put together a solid resume to be their opponent. Instead, Alabama will be getting their second chance at LSU.

Instead of the National Championship featuring two teams facing off for the first time this year, the game will leave many wondering, "What if?"

Clemson vs West Virginia: What We Hate

10 of 10

While it may be predictable, what people will hate about this matchup is the fact that it involves a team from the Big East.

Over the past couple of years, the Big East has been a mess and has not performed well in the BCS. This year, the expectations will once again be low and if the Mountaineers end up getting blown out, the Big East will again be under fire.
