2011 Bowl Projections: Why Nebraska Cornhuskers Will Run over South Carolina
Nebraska will literally run over South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl.
Without much of a surprise, it was announced that Nebraska will be taking on South Carolina on January 2nd.
As for the game itself, I wouldn't want to bet against Nebraska.
Bo Pelini's team boasts the 13th-best rushing attack in the country. Rex Burkhead and Taylor Martinez ran for more than 2,000 yards combined this year, and they aren't done adding to that tally.
Burkhead set the single-game carries record against Iowa, with an astonishing 38 rushes. The running back will surely be a big part of the next game plan as well. He's a workhorse, and he wants the ball on every single play.
The Huskers will be sure to run the ball, but their defense will have a big say in this game too.
They've had their issues this year, but the Blackshirts understand the big stage, and they will surely shut down the Gamecocks' balanced attack.
Now, Steve Spurrier's offense will surely get things going at some point, but the Huskers will lock down in the red zone, when it matters.
Whether it's through a turnover or a sack, the Husker defense will be what changes the game in their favor.
On top of everything, the Huskers have Bo Pelini getting a game plan ready. He has over a month to prepare, and his football team will be more than ready to go. He is 3-1 in bowl games, and if it weren't for last year's debacle, he would still be undefeated.
Still, after last year (and some of this year's embarrassments), Pelini will feel the need to prove something, and I have no doubt the team will be ready to go.
South Carolina is a solid team, but the Huskers should be able to play their game and earn a tough win.
