BCS Rankings: Why Boise State Still Has Title Argument

Dan RenfroDec 4, 2011

Even though they couldn't manage perfection, the Boise State Broncos still have an argument to make the BCS National Championship Game.

No, seriously.

The Broncos lost to a solid team. No one seems capable of beating LSU. Plus, with their body of work over the past few years, they deserve a shot.

Even though TCU isn't the team it was last year, it still finished 10-2, and beat the Broncos in Boise. Accordingly, Boise State suffer a bad loss.

The basic standard for Boise State is simple: go undefeated, and you'll be considered.

Even though they failed that test, the Broncos didn't lose to a weak team from their conference. TCU is a nationally-known team that is the reigning Rose Bowl Champion.

At the end of the day, Boise's single loss is better than Oklahoma State's.

With all this talk of the National Title, who actually stands the best chance of beating LSU? Alabama had a shot, and even though they outplayed the Tigers, they fell short. A rematch would essentially rule that first meeting meaningless.

So, if we want to rule Alabama out (for the sake of argument), who would stand the best chance of defeating LSU?

Oklahoma State and Stanford have offenses that could possibly score on LSU. However, neither of their defenses could even slow the Tigers down, and they would probably be beat pretty badly by the end.

Oregon and Arkansas were already dismantled by LSU, so they don't deserve another chance.

The next team in line would be the Broncos. Who would bet against them in a big game?

They are the most well-prepared team each bowl season, and I would love to see how they game plan for LSU. They would have the best chance to beat the Tigers, for they have shown their ability to beat more talented teams in bowl games.

With their body of work and ability to come up big in big games, Boise deserves a shot.

Realistically, the BCS won't even think about Boise State in the title game. However, their argument isn't completely ridiculous.

And, given the current situation, they deserve a chance just as much as anyone else.
