Tim Tebow's Legend Continues to Grow with Comeback Win vs. Vikings

Tim DanielsDec 4, 2011

Tim Tebow did it again.

Well, actually, the entire Denver Broncos team completed another fourth-quarter comeback, but Tebow will get most of the credit. With each passing week the legend of Tebow continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

The endless debate about his ability to survive as a starting quarterback shows that he's quickly becoming one of the most polarizing figures in NFL history.

Trailing by eight with under 10 minutes left, Tebow found an open Demaryius Thomas for a big gain, and Willis McGahee scored on the very next play. Tebow converted the two-point conversion to tie it.

After a drive that lasted nearly six minutes gave Minnesota the lead back, Tebow and Co. fought back again. He connected on back-to-back throws to pick up 52 yards, leading to a game-tying field goal by Matt Prater.

Then the Denver defense stepped up big like it has so often since Tebow took over for an ineffective Kyle Orton. Andre' Goodman picked off Christian Ponder, setting up another winning field goal attempt for Prater, who crushed it through the uprights from 23 yards.

And just like that, another chapter in the book of Tebow is written.

He finished the game 10-of-15 for 202 yards and three touchdowns through the air, which represents his best performance of the season (by far). His ability to make plays with his arm when a defense virtually eliminates his running game shows his growth as a QB.

There's still a long way to go before he convinces the critics, including the Broncos front office, that he's the right man for the job. That said, the results are hard to argue. Even though the schedule hasn't been overly difficult, 6-1 during any seven-game stretch is an accomplishment in the NFL.

Tebow's proven time and again that he's going to work tirelessly to improve all aspects of his game. He wants to be a starting quarterback and could care less what the naysayers are grumbling about.

That's the right attitude to have because somebody with less mental toughness would surely have fell apart under the pressure Tebow's fought through. The only problem with that is success only increases expectations, making a fall from grace nearly inevitable at some point.

But for now, Bronco fans are enjoying the ride as Tebow's improvement continues. Is there a playoff chapter in his future? Only time will tell.
