LSU vs. Alabama Rematch: 5 Ways This Game Will Be Different Than Last Time

Dan VastaDec 4, 2011

The AP and USA Today Coaches Poll are officially out and the Alabama Crimson Tide maintain a slim lead over Oklahoma State.

The AP Poll does not play as a factor into the BCS Rankings, but all of a sudden this race to take on LSU has come down to the wire.

Who is it going to be: Oklahoma State or Alabama? The computers still had Alabama over Oklahoma State for second last week and the Harris Poll could be the deciding factor.

Some "experts"  (Teddy Greenstein, Jerry Palm and Samuel Chi) are going with Oklahoma State, though Alabama appears to have the slimmest of leads at the moment (pre-Harris Poll releasing).

Plus, for arguments sake, let us talk about a possible rematch between LSU and Alabama. What five reasons make the second time around different and more importantly better than the first?

Game Is in Louisiana

1 of 5

Despite Alabama sitting home and relaxing, if they do get voted in the BCS National Championship they would have to win in the backyard of the Bayou Bengals.

It is funny how things work out and it would seem like an award for LSU to essentially host the national title.

If they lose and get blown out, then so be it. They will likely be favored having won 13 games against remarkable competition.

The atmosphere will be electric in the Louisiana Superdome regardless of who the Tigers play, but if it the Crimson Tide are in the SEC crowd will be in a frenzy.

Teams Have Improved Drastically

2 of 5

If we do see the two beasts from the SEC West battle it out it will be an epic battle because quite frankly we have not seen many teams with more talent.

The USC-Texas and or Miami-Ohio State games will forever remain legendary, but with two explosive running games and all-world defenses this may match the hype.

In fact, we are destined to not only see more points, but perhaps more electric plays in a single drive than we did last time.

One thing is for sure and that is it will not take much time to surpass the previous meeting in terms of overall entertainment in terms of offensive fireworks.

Special Teams Far Better

3 of 5

At least we hope the special teams will be better. This game will be played on turf (UBU-Intensity Series-S5-M Synthetic Turf) which should only allow more opportunities for kick and punt returns brought back to the house.

Tyrann Mathieu has been ridiculous, but let us not forget who Marquis Maze is. He dazzled us earlier this season against Arkansas and we very well could see a punt return make the difference in this potential matchup.

The special teams coverage for both has been sensational and they better be in their "A" games if they want to avoid allowing a game-changing play.

Quarterback Play 10x Better

4 of 5

I have no doubts that LSU and Alabama are the best two teams and those are bold words since the quarterback play was brutal in the first matchup between these two.

Jordan Jefferson has since taken over and he has taken care of the ball and has added an extra dimension in the running (option) game with his ability to escape pressure.

A.J. McCarron has also made leaps and bounds since the LSU game by being able to really dissect a defense since he has a defense that is always giving him solid field position.

Coaching Staffs Will Have Month to Prepare and Can Adjust on the Fly

5 of 5

These two coaching staffs can adjust on the fly better than arguably any teams in the nation. Giving these two amazing staffs a full month to prepare for a game is borderline insane.

They are great enough as it is, but there will be more wrinkles and perhaps a few gadgets plays (doubtful, but something will go down). The more time that Les Miles and Nick Saban have will only result into more production more times than not.

Not only could this potential matchup between two heavyweights be a slugfest with a ton of more landed punches, but it could surpass America's expectations in what should be one of the most talented games in BCS National Championship history.
