NBA Rumors: Greg Oden Would Be Brilliant Pickup for Size-Challenged Heat

Kyle VassaloDec 4, 2011

The Heat are in dire need of some bulk up front, but they don't have the money to spend to make Tyson Chandler a realistic acquisition and they certainly don't have the resources to make way for a Dwight Howard trade.

The Heat have reportedly shown interest in Greg Oden, according to ESPN. This is the sort of low-risk, high-reward move that could allow LeBron James to make some headway on the seven or so championships he ran his mouth about after The Decision.

Injuries have taken Oden from being the next Shaq to spending the bulk of his career on the end of the bench.

The Trail Blazers obviously won't want to part ways with their former No. 1 overall pick, as they would look foolish if the Heat were able to salvage use out of the big man.

The Heat could limit his minutes and give him the best possible shot at being healthy. He would give them some much-needed height and depth in the frontcourt.

The best-case scenario is that he works his way into the starting lineup, joins the big three and becomes a Cinderella story after resurrecting his career en route to a championship.

The worst-case scenario is that the Heat are in the exact same boat that they are in now. Oden would be in a far better position to succeed and this move should spark the interest of all parties involved.
