Cotto vs. Margarito 2 Results: Trash-Talking Margarito Got His Just Desserts

Antonio Margarito may have lost to Miguel Cotto, but that isn’t stopping him from talking trash about the fight. As usual.

In one of the better fights this year, Cotto got his revenge over Margarito in their highly anticipated rematch. After several rounds of beating on Margarito, the ring-side doctors examined the damage to the Mexican boxer and decided it wasn’t safe to allow him to continue.

Most people in the boxing community knew that as soon as the doctors stopped the fight, it would be Margarito that was screaming about the fight being fixed.

While he did cry and moan, Cotto clearly won the fight and had Margarito’s face swollen and battered. The doctors made the right decision for Margarito’s health, even if he can’t see that at this point.

Margarito told Boxing News 24/7 in a post-fight interview: "I told them how many numbers they were holding up, but I knew they were out to protect him. It’s his building. I hurt him. Look at his face. I’ll say it again. He hits like a girl."

The best line my father ever told me through the years was that the emptiest barrels make the most noise. While many people may not understand the euphemism, Margarito is an empty barrel that everyone has just started to ignore.

This is obviously the final stretch run for Margarito as a fighter. While Cotto still has plenty of boxing left in him, Margarito has nothing left to give in terms of championship fighting.

I see Margarito being used as a measuring stick for the welterweights that want to make their name known in the sport.

After a few more KOs, Margarito and his deflated pride will have to head back to Mexico.
