NBA Rumors: Warriors Need to Make Tyson Chandler an Offer He Can't Refuse
The Golden State Warriors are in the running for big man Tyson Chandler, and they need to do whatever it takes to get him to the Bay area.
The unrestricted free agent has said that he doesn't expect to return to Dallas, which means the Warriors should jump all over him.
ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted earlier that they are one of the most serious contenders for his services.
Chandler would provide the Warriors with exactly what they need to return to prominence. They haven't advanced past the conference semi-finals since 1976, but the addition of Chandler would immediately make them contenders out west.
The 29-year-old 7-footer is a straight up animal on defense.
He didn't block a ton of shots last season (1.1 per game), but his sheer presence is immeasurable.
The sight of Chandler roaming the lane is terrifying for opponents. Even the world's best slashers (like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in the Finals) stop attacking the basket when they see Chandler underneath it.
Chandler fit perfectly with Dirk Nowitzki, and I think he would gel equally well with the defensively challenged David Lee. Chandler is everything Lee isn't—long and athletic with great defensive instincts.
Much like the Mavericks, the Warriors also wouldn't need any offense from Chandler.
Steph Curry is just disgustingly good with the ball in his hands and Monta Ellis can drop 30 points in his sleep.
Lee is one of the best offensive power forwards in the league, Dorell Wright can pour in buckets, and rookie Klay Thompson rains threes like an NBA Jam character.
Golden State would just need Chandler to finish a few alley-oops, snatch rebounds, swat some shots and beat his chest.
As long as they stayed relatively healthy, I am convinced the Warriors would be a top five team in the west with Chandler.
The big man will have plenty of suitors when free agency begins Dec. 9.
But if he wants to be on a contender for the duration of his contract, he should make Oracle Arena his new home.
