2011 Bowl Projections: Bubble BCS Teams That Deserve a Bid
The BCS must include the following teams in their bowl games. The teams deserve it, and we the fans deserve it.
For starters, any of these teams would provide much better theater in the Orange Bowl against the ACC winner than any team from the Big East.
With the SEC taking both spots in the title game, the BCS also has a hole to fill in the Sugar Bowl. Then there is a third a spot to hand out for the Fiesta Bowl.
Here is who should earn those bids.
Stanford
The Cardinal have the record and they have the Luck to play on one of college football's biggest stages.
Stanford has stormed its way to an 11-1 record. Their one loss was to eventual Pac-12 champion Oregon.
Stanford has impressive wins over USC, 56-48, Washington, 65-21 and Notre Dame, 28-14.
They have an incredibly balanced offense, and one of college football's all-time great QBs in Andrew Luck directing traffic.
The Cardinal are fifth in the nation in points scored. They come off of a dominant performance in last year's Orange Bowl. This team is a worthy opponent for any team in the country. They need to get a chance to prove it.
Boise State
The Broncos are a missed field goal away from being undefeated, and in serious consideration to play in the title game. That field goal should not keep them from the BCS altogether.
Other than that heart breaking loss, Boise State's closest game was an 11-point victory over Air Force. Their next closest was a 14-point victory over a Georgia team that went on to win 10 straight games and take a lead into halftime of the SEC championship game against the nation's No. 1 team in LSU.
Boise State is electrifying to watch. They have an efficient aerial attack led by one of the nation's best QBs in Kellen Moore.
This is Moore's senior year, and he deserves, and has earned, the right to go out with a BCS bowl game.
Michigan
Michigan is one bad game away from being a lock for a BCS game. They lost to Iowa, 24-16. Their only other loss was a 28-14 game to a Michigan State team that now has their number.
Other than that, Brady Hoke's squad has surpassed all expectations in his first year. This team has some impressive wins on their resume, like their 45-17 trouncing of Nebraska in their second to last game.
They have a dynamic QB to offer fans with Denard Robinson, and a solid defense to keep them in any game. This team is ninth in points allowed this season.
