At the World MMA Awards on Wednesday, Chael Sonnen said that he has no fight with Mark Munoz, and that it is not confirmed.

Well, now it has been confirmed, as the UFC released today saying that Chael Sonnen will face Mark Munoz in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 2.

On Wednesday, Sonnen said that he would be watching the fight between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Michael Bisping closely, leading many fans to expect that he would fight the winner of that matchup.

However, that was not what the UFC had planned, and Sonnen and Munoz will face off in a No. 1 contender matchup.

Sonnen will come into the fight after an emphatic return to the Octagon where he tapped out Brian Stann with an arm-triangle choke at UFC 136. Prior to that was his epic fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117.

Munoz comes into the fight on a four-fight win streak, and having won seven of his last eight. His last fight was the main event of UFC 138 opposite Chris Leben, where he earned a corner stoppage between the second and third rounds.

The winner of this fight will likely face Anderson Silva in Brazil sometime in August.

Also likely on the UFC on Fox 2 card, will be Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis and Demetrious Johnson vs. Eddie Wineland.
