2011 Bowl Predictions: Skidding Teams That'll Be Embarrassed in Non-BCS Bowls

Kyle VassaloDec 3, 2011

While some teams are coming into bowl season with a full head of steam, others are skidding into their bowls and are sure to endure another humiliating loss to cap off their seasons.

There are sure to be non-BCS bowls that are more exciting than some of the matchups the BCS bowls put forth, but for these teams, bowl season will be a harsh ending to a forgettable season.

Here are three skidding teams who will be embarrassed in non-BCS Bowls.

Arizona State

Arizona State started out the season 5-1 with wins over Missouri and USC. Success is a distant memory for the skidding Sun Devils though, as losing five out of their last six games prompted them to fire Dennis Erickson.

Injuries, penalties and poor coaching have crippled ASU. None of them are likely to be corrected before they hit bowl season. Hitting the Las Vegas Bowl against a ferocious TCU squad would spell disaster for a dejected Sun Devils team with no direction or desire to win.

UCLA

UCLA is in the same boat as Arizona State. They have a head coaching vacancy and lost to their rival. Unlike ASU, UCLA didn't even manage to put up a fight against their rival. Remember when UCLA was supposed to challenge the Trojans for LA supremacy?

A 50-0 loss to the Trojans followed by a three-score shellacking by Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship doesn't speak well to their chances of competing in the final game of their season.

If they end up in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco, a strong presence won't save them from what will likely be an underrated Illinois team who handed Arizona State a loss early in the season.

Clemson

Clemson got off to a ridiculous start that forced people to take notice. Winning eight straight games allowed Clemson to fool everyone into thinking they were legitimate.

Wins over Florida State are looking less impressive than ever and even if they are able to take down Virginia Tech, they'll still roll into bowl season losing three of their last five games.

Clemson is likely bound for the Chick-Fil-A bowl against an SEC powerhouse. While Florida is a train wreck, it's hard to fault them for being beaten down by five ranked SEC opponents.

Losing to Florida would be an fitting finish to Florida's season that proved to be a huge letdown.
