Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Is "Superman Rising" Set to Be a Los Angeles Laker?

1 1Dec 2, 2011

Dwight Howard wants to be a Laker if the latest ESPN Los Angeles report is true, and if the history of the NBA is any indication, he will become one.

With a legacy of great centers, LA would be the perfect place for Howard to cement his legacy as a champion and win a ring alongside the Black Mamba. With a running mate like Kobe, the Lakers easily could be poised to develop a new dynasty, based on defense and a winning heritage that is in their blood.

As we get closer and closer to December 9th, the trade rumors involving the Lakers' Andrew Bynum and the Orlando Magic's centerpiece Howard have been growing each and every day. One of the highly plausible deals would send Andrew Bogut from Milwaukee to Orlando, Bynum to the Bucks and Howard to the Lakers.

Dwight wants to win now, and he isn't getting the opportunity to do so in Orlando.

Howard has the personality for Hollywood and can be a main attraction for the Lakers after Kobe decides to hang it up. Kobe is in the latter part of his career, and with a young player like Dwight coming into his prime, he can win that elusive sixth title to tie Michael Jordan—and perhaps even more.

Recently, Matt Barnes of the Lakers went on record saying that Dwight Howard wants to be a Laker. When asked about his thoughts on the trade he said, " You know, I’ve been hearing Dwight. I’ve been hearing Baron [Davis]. I’ve been hearing stuff a lot lately. I’ve talked to both of those guys and they want to be here, so we’ll see what happens." So there is definitely speculation that Dwight wants to be traded to the Lakers.

The NBA is now full of young teams looking to challenge the established powers of the NBA: the upstart Bulls, the Thunder, Heat, the Knicks and even teams on the cusp like Portland and Atlanta.

With older teams like the Celtics, Spurs and Lakers beginning to feel the effects of aging, this infusion of youth, defense and a unique brand of offense would make these young teams legitimate championship contenders.

We all know that Andrew Bynum has great potential, but none of us know if he is capable of living up to the hype. In Dwight Howard the Lakers would get a three-time Defensive Player of the Year to anchor the new Mike Brown defense, and retain a large part of their core in players like Kobe and possibly Pau Gasol or Lamar Odom.

Superman is rising.
