2012 NFL Draft: 10 Teams That Should Already Be Planning for April

David LevinDec 6, 2011

The sand in the hourglass is moving too quickly for some teams and not quickly enough for others.

And with each passing grain that hits the bottom of the timer, decisions have to be made. What areas of offense and defense need the most attention? Does the head coach warrant another year on his contract? Is it time to make a clean break and start over? Can teams find success through the draft or does free agency give then a better opportunity to make a splash?

And with each passing grain and each loss, the 2012 Draft becomes important to the teams that are toiling and waiting to nab the next John Elway (Andrew Luck) or a top-notch receiver or a defensive star.

These teams need to focus on the 2012 Draft now.

Jacksonville Jaguars

What if?

How about this scenario taking place? Jacksonville, with the fifth pick in the 2012 Draft, is faced with choosing between a receiver (Alshon Jeffery), a tackle (Matt Kalil) and a quarterback (Matt Barkley).

If you were the general manager, what would you do?

Those very questions might be plaguing the Jaguars come April.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Philadelphia Eagles

2 of 10

The offensive firepower is just too good and the weapons at the quarterback's disposal leave you wondering what is going on in Philly.

The Eagles cannot find a balance that will get them to the promised land.

They still need help on defense and the draft could bring them a stud pass rusher.

Arizona Cardinals

3 of 10

Last year's draft brought them Patrick Peterson.

What could this year bring?

The draft will be full of defensive and offensive line help as well as secondary playmakers.

The Cardinals could be a good team next season with a new part or two.

St. Louis Rams

The offensive weapons need to be improved and the team needs another receiver.

The Rams have a good running game and future All-Pro passer.

The parts need to be changed, enhanced and fixed.

They still have growing to do.

Minnesota Vikings

5 of 10

The Vikings' brass have several good players on board.

A receiver and some defensive help would be a huge improvement.

The running game is set with Adrian Peterson and Christian Ponder will be the signal caller for years.

Maybe an offensive lineman is needed as well.

Cleveland Browns

6 of 10

Does this team use its two first round picks to move up to get a stud passer?

Do they roll the dice on a runner?

Can they find another good defensive back in the first round?

This team is not that great, but they have leverage with multiple picks.

Buffalo Bills

7 of 10

There was so much promise at the beginning of the season.

Then the bottom fell out.

Such is the life in Buffalo.

They need to find help at receiver and on the offensive line.

And they need more continuity to help them overcome their deficiencies as a young team.

Washington Redskins

8 of 10

Hey, Daniel Snyder...draft a QUARTERBACK!

That is probably the battle cry in D.C.

A stud passer and their weapons back on offense and Roy Helu running makes this team a pretty good offensive team.

Seattle Seahawks

9 of 10

The only real need that is pressing is at quarterback. Pete Carroll has good players to work with and mold.

Getting a signal caller and maybe another receiver would make the offense a real threat.

Indianapolis Colts

10 of 10

It is almost a foregone conclusion what will happen in the 2012 Draft. The only thing we don't know is what will happen with the man Andrew Luck will replace, Peyton Manning.

If Manning comes back and can play, do the Colts keep their star, trade their star or keep both quarterbacks and see what happens?
