20 Biggest Winners and Losers from the NFL's Week 13

David LevinDec 4, 2011

The week opened with another loss for the Philadelphia Eagles, who must be begging for the offseason. As well as a chance to get rid of the hangover from the preseason and NFL Lockout.

The weekend ended with another come from behind win from the "Fighting Tebows" as the Denver Bronco is now a serious playoff contender.

Can it get any better in the NFL?

These days as the cold winds blow from the north, teams are fighting for their playoff lives. They are doing so in conventional and unconventional manners.

Yet the fact remains, these are some of the best football games we have seen since last season.

And it only looks to get better.

Seattle Seahawks got a much needed win. The Oakland Raiders were squashed by the Miami Hurricanes, who are fighting to save Tony Sparano's job, and the Broncos are making everyone a believer.

Oh yea, the Packers won again.

Now, let's take a look at the biggest winners and losers of the week.

Winner: Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans

1 of 20

Thank you, Chris Johnson.

Besides the fact that my fantasy team is pleased to finally have the all-world running back in rare form, the Tennessee Titans have been waiting for their franchise RB to be in sync with the team.

Now, they can make their move toward a wild card spot in the AFC.

Johnson ran for 153 yards and two scores in the Titans 23-17 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Loser: Vince Young, Philadelphia Eagles

2 of 20

Following a 400-yard game in a loss to the New England Patriots last week, Vince Young followed it by throwing four interceptions in the 31-14 loss to the Seahawks Thursday night.

Young could never get on track against the Seahawks' defense on the road.

The Philadelphia Eagles are now 4-8 on the season.

Winner: Miami Dolphins Defense

3 of 20

The defense held again. This time the Miami Hurricanes were able to hold the Raiders to 14 points in a 34-14 win over the Raiders.

In the past five games the Dolphins have outscored opponents 139-54.

Reggie Bush had 100 yards rushing in the contest.

Loser: Buffalo Bills

4 of 20

At one point, the Buffalo Bills were 5-2. They have now lost five straight games, including the 23-17 loss at the hands of  the Tennessee Titans.

The Bills once thought to be a lock for the playoffs, are not on the outside looking in.

Even with C.J. Spiller's 83 yards and touchdown, the Bills fell to 5-7 this season.

Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks

5 of 20

Marshawn Lynch scored twice on Thursday night in the 31-14 win over the Eagles at home.

Lynch had 148 yards rushing on the night. His second best rushing performance in his career.

Loser: Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons

6 of 20

Michael Turner ran for only 44 yards against the NFL's top rated defense as the Falcons lost 17-10.

Turner and the Falcons' offense could not get going as quarterback Matt Ryan threw two interceptions in the loss.

Winner: Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos

7 of 20

In 2010, there were two Denver Broncos first round draft picks. On Sunday they both had a key in the Broncos 35-32 come from behind win over the Minnesota Vikings.

While Tim Tebow was busy having a good passing day, Demaryius Thomas caught four passes for 144 yards and two scores from Tebow.

The Broncos are 6-1 with Tebow as a starter.

Loser: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

8 of 20

They have lose seven of their last eight games and are now 4-8 on the season. The Buccaneers are reeling following the 38-19 defeat at the hands of the Carolina Panthers.

The Buccaneers played Josh Johnson at quarterback in place of Josh Freeman, who sat out with a shoulder injury.

Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers Offense

9 of 20

The Pittsburgh Steelers scored 28 points in the second quarter as the Steelers beat the Bengals 35-7.

The Steelers swept both games from the upstart Cincinnati Bengals this season.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for two touchdowns to Mike Wallace, and Rashard Mendenhall ran for two more in the win.

Loser: Matt Forte, Chicago Bears

10 of 20

The Bears running back Matt Forte went down with a knee injury on his fifth carry of the game.

The Bears weren't able to get their offense moving, and they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 10-3.

Marion Barber replaced Forte in the game but only gained 44 yards in the contest.

Winner: Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

11 of 20

Cam Newton's three rushing touchdowns added to his chances of winning Rookie of the Year today.

Carolina used Newton's legs for three touchdowns as the Panthers doubled their win total from last year with a 38-19 win over the Buccaneers.

The Panthers may be 4-8 this season, but their future certainly looks bright.

Loser: DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles

12 of 20

The Philadelphia Eagles are the only team to have two players on this list this week.

It looks like DeSean Jackson quit on his team in the 31-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Jackson seems to be a selfish player if there ever is one, and whether the issues he has with the Eagles is over management, coaching or his contract, he should still give everything on the field.

This week he did not.

Winner: Mark Sanchez, New York Jets

13 of 20

The New York Jets scored 21 points in the final quarter to win 34-19 over the Washington Redskins this week.

It was the tenth time Mark Sanchez engineered a fourth-quarter comeback in his career and second straight week he has done that.

The win was the second in a row for the Jets who are now 7-5.

Loser: Tom Coughlin, New York Giants

14 of 20

Oh boy, say it isn't so. A few weeks ago, we were talking about how the  New York Giants were a sleeper team no one was talking about.

Last week, they get blown out by the New Orleans Saints, and then they lose a nail bitter to the Green Bay Packers 38-35.

Does Tom Coughlin have a job next year in the Big Apple?

The Giants have lost four in a row.

Winner: Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens

15 of 20

The team's franchise player on offense ran for 204 yards in a 24-10 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Ray Rice scored a touchdown to help the cause.

The win kept pace with the Steelers in the AFC North division.

Loser: Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams

16 of 20

I could have picked any player from the St. Louis Rams, but Steven Jackson had a whopping 19 yards on 11 carries in the 26-0 loss to the 49ers.

The team is now 2-10 on the season.

Nothing more needs to be said.

Winner: Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings

17 of 20

I am giving my fellow Florida State University alumni Christian Ponder some love this weekend. While Tim Tebow did his usual come from behind win thing, much like he did at University of Florida against FSU, Ponder threw for 381 yards in a losing effort.

He is playing better, and while the Vikings did not win they were without Adrian Peterson.

Percy Harvin had a great game with 156 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

The Minnesota Vikings could be very good next season.

Loser: DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys

18 of 20

DeMarco Murray came back to earth today.

In the 19-13 loss to the Cardinals, Murray had 38 yards rushing on 12 carries.

While the Cowboys won two straight games on the last play of the game two weeks in a row, it was the Arizona Cardinals who surprised the Cowboys and won in overtime.

Winner: San Francisco 49ers

19 of 20

Isn't it great to see the 49ers back in the thick of the playoff race.

The 49ers, led by rookie head coach John Harbaugh, quarterback Alex Smith, and stingy defense, beat the St. Louis Rams to claim the NFC West.

It's awesome to see red and gold in the playoffs again.

20. Loser: Indianapolis Colts

20 of 20

They gave their rivals the Patriots a good fight. In the end, well, you know what happened.

Are the Colts ready for the first pick in the draft?

Could Peyton Manning play this season?

It won't matter. This team has more problems than just a quarterback issue.
