Pac 12 Championship Game: Oregon Hosts Odd Encore for UCLA Bruins
If you happen to be a fan of the odd, bizarre and grotesque, you will fit right in as a college football connoisseur.
All it takes to understand college football is for one to break from reality. We can delve into the BCS and the heaps of trash it has unloaded on us. Instead, I would like to chat about the inaugural Pac-12 Championship.
If the title game continues like this every season, we will see the best in the conference take on one of the worst. At least, that's what I gather from episode one of this farce.
UCLA has had an up and down season. It just so happens that the downs were so heavy that head coach Rick Neuheisel was kicked to the curb. The fact is, this is an outlier year because USC is still under sanctions.
So what we get is more sideshow than anything. Even the kids at Oregon are having a hard time selling this game to themselves, which can be seen in this posted video.
It could have been a whole lot worse. If the conference had decided on an neutral site rather than the home of the team with the best record, we could be looking at a hot Arizona night with 10 people in the stands.
As it stands, we have a tough Oregon team that could contend with the best in the land playing a team that just got mollywhopped by USC, 50-0.
You can bet that we will see a similar score as the Ducks tear apart a team that employs a lame duck at head coach for this rare event.
If you want something even more outlandish, consider what happens if UCLA wins. The Bruins are lead to a tremendous upset in what would be a classic championship game, regardless of conference.
That is something to consider if you are thinking of tuning into this silly game that pits an undeserving team against a star-studded powerhouse.
I almost wouldn't believe it if not for taking place in the realm of the loony. College football, where WTF happens.
