Why DeSean Jackson Is Pouting His Way out of New Contract with Eagles

Chris TrapassoDec 2, 2011

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson isn't exactly earning a new contract with his current team.

That's for sure.

He's been visibly upset all season, but all the frustration came to a head in the Eagles' 31-14 defeat at the hands of the Seahawks on Thursday night.

I've got lots of questions surrounding this whole situation and, more specifically, the way in which Jackson is handling it all.

Honestly, what is Jackson pouting about?

He's the "premier" that wanted a huge deal that has underperformed in nearly every game this season.

Sure, maybe his play over the last two seasons warranted a contract extension, but Eagles' management is proving why they were reluctant to offer up big money for the former second-round selection.

When are guys like Jackson going to realize that the best way to sign a mega-deal is to actually work for it?

Maybe he was irritated with the way in which Philadelphia spent money acquiring the big-name free agents this past offseason, but how is being clearly disinterested in blocking and losing focus on passes thrown your way going to get you a new deal?

That's the worst way to get a Larry Fitzgerald-esque pay day.

If anything, D-Jax should have been busting his tail to cement himself as the clear-cut top deep threat in the league.

He hasn't had a terrible 2011 season (43 catches, 698 yards and two touchdowns). In fact, if he had a different attitude this year, there's a decent chance he'd be in line for a new contract.

I know it's not easy when his team, a consensus Super Bowl favorite, is the biggest disappointment in the league, but hasn't Jackson been part of the problem?

Not only is his childish demeanor ruining his chances to get re-signed by the Eagles, but what other NFL team is going to offer him a contract with the possibility of a future Jackson headache?
