NFL Picks Week 13: Minnesota Vikings Can Stop Tim Tebow Show

Matt LeirdahlDec 2, 2011

Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos have been on a tear. They have won five of their last six games.

No one can seem to find a way to stop them.

They are not winning by much. They are winning by having last second marches down the field by Tebow.

The Vikings, however, have a chance to put an end to their streak.

Here are five ways that the Vikings can stop the Broncos and finally take down Tebow.

Make Tim Tebow Pass

1 of 5

Tim Tebow and the Dever Broncos have won five of the last six games.

Whenever the Broncos win, it is when Tebow does not pass very much.

The game that Tebow threw for the most yards, against the Detroit Lions, the Broncos lost.

The key for the Vikings to get Tebow to pass.

This can be accomplished by giving him time in the pocket and shutting down the option.

Get a Big Lead

2 of 5

It seems that in almost every game, Tim Tebow leads the Broncos down the field for a last minute victory.

The way that the Vikings can stop this is to get a big lead.

This may seem basic, but in order to beat the Broncos it is necessary. If the Broncos are down by a lot at the end of the game, there is no way that Tebow can have a comeback.

They can do this by passing often and early. It also means taking care of the ball.

Run the Ball Effectively

3 of 5

In order to get the passing game going, the Vikings need to establish a run game.

Running back Adrian Peterson is listed as questionable for the Week 13 game, so it may be difficult.

One of the ways that the can get the running game going is to put Percy Harvin in the back field more often.

He is one of the most dynamic players in the league, and he needs to have a big part in this game.

Toby Gerhart is not a feature back and the Vikings should not use him as one.

Control the Clock and Ball

4 of 5

One of the problems that the Vikings coaching staff has been having this season is clock management and ball control.

The Vikings need to keep the ball out of the hands of Tebow at the end of the game and keep the Vikings defense off the field because the Broncos offense can wear down a defense through constantly running the ball.

Teams have been having problems scoring against the Broncos, so if the Vikings are able to keep the ball in their control and not turn it over, they will have more opportunities to score.

Stop the Option

5 of 5

Since the Broncos decided that they don't need to pass to win, the Vikings will need to shut down the run.

One of the Broncos favorite ways of running is through the option.

Stopping the option would shut down a major facet of the Broncos offense, maybe even force Tebow to pass, which is not really his forte.

The Vikings can do this by getting a good jump on the ball. The Vikings have a good run defense, so if they can get a good jump and break through the line quickly, shutting down Tebow will be a lot easier.
