NFL Week 13 Predictions: Which Underdogs Will Help You Break the Bank?

Eric BowmanDec 2, 2011

Every week of the 2011 NFL season has seen underdogs pull through and prevent the favorites from delivering. Such is the case in Week 13, as some underdogs will even get the win outright.

Pulling for the underdog can be fun at times, but when you've got more than just bragging rights on the game it gets more intense.

With that said, here are three underdogs certain to help you break the bank.

Indianapolis Colts +21

I know the Colts haven't won a game this year, and yes it's going to stay that way, but they're getting too many points here not to take them. Indianapolis' defense has been worse than expected, but they will be highly motivated to step up and stick it to the New England Patriots.

Curtis Painter showed some life again last week, connecting with Reggie Wayne for over 100 yards. Since the Patriots have the worst pass defense in the league, the Colts will fare better than most think.

Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis love to sack Tom Brady, and they'll be gunning for him all game. The Patriots will win, but it won't be as big as you think.

Prediction: Patriots 33, Colts 20

Detroit Lions +9

Another team getting a lot of points, the Lions take on the New Orleans Saints this Sunday night in what will be an epic game.

The Saints defense did a great job last week, but they're not good enough to shut down Calvin Johnson, as his performance is what will keep the Lions in this game.

Drew Brees and company will continue to roll on offense, but the Saints defense will struggle to keep the Lions out of the end zone, which is why they won't cover.

Prediction: Saints 38, Lions 33

Oakland Raiders +3

The Raiders have had their ups and downs this year, and even though they're on the road, they will get the win over the Miami Dolphins.

It's no secret the Dolphins are awful at home, as this year was the first time they won back-to-back home games since 2009. Carson Palmer will spread the ball around, and the Raiders will take care of business.

Credit the Dolphins for playing much better in recent weeks, but they will fail at home on Sunday afternoon.

Prediction: Raiders 24, Dolphins 17
