Tim Tebow: Why He Is Ruining the NFL One Win at Time

Matt SteinDec 2, 2011

Tim Tebow is ruining the NFL

There, I said it. Look, I'm entitled to an opinion, and my opinion on Tim Tebow is that with each victory he gets, the NFL becomes less of a professional sport and more of a hobby.

I'm not saying that Tebow isn't a proven winner. I'm not coming after his religious beliefs or wholesome persona.

What I'm saying is that as a true fan of NFL football, Tebow is ruining the game for me. As a fan, I don't want to see a starting quarterback complete only two passes in a game. I don't want to see a quarterback throw crappy pass after crappy pass.

When I watch professional football, I want to see professional athletes doing things that I could never do. I could never zip a 20-yard pass into the smallest window off my back foot like Aaron Rodgers. I wouldn't be able to break a tackle from every member of the New Orleans Saints defense like Marshawn Lynch.

But you know what I could do? I could probably complete two passes in a game. I could probably throw crappy pass after crappy pass and end up with a quarterback rating that is lower than my current age.

It's not a question of winning or losing with Tebow. In fact, he could win the next five Super Bowls and I would still be of the same opinion.

Tebow is quietly changing the game of football, and it isn't for the better. He is making it appear as if any "Joe Schmo" could walk off the street and play quarterback in the NFL.

Each win that he leads his team to only makes matters worse. With each win, media outlets become more obsessed and force us to watch replay after replay of his poor throwing mechanics or lack of calmness in the pocket.

With each win, a mentality grows amongst the common man that says, "Hey, I could throw a lame duck pass like that." As that mentality grows, it makes football harder and harder to watch.

Before the season is over, if I continue to be forced to hear and watch about Tebow at an alarmingly rapid pace, I may no longer enjoy the sport I love. God forbid if Tebow leads the Denver Broncos to the playoffs.

If that happens, consider the NFL dead to me. Thank you, Mr. Tebow. Thanks for ruining the NFL one win at a time.
