WWE News: Say Goodbye to the Loathed WWE Spinner Belt?

Kaleb KelchnerDec 1, 2011

For six years, the WWE Championship has been sporting a spinner design, introduced by John Cena. In that time, the vast majority of the WWE Universe has agreed that the spinner belt looks more at home sitting in the toy aisle of Wal-Mart than it does around the waist of a WWE champion.

In fact, that may be exactly what has kept this "hip"-looking belt around for so long, the gaudy replica being sold to the legions of young fans that follow John Cena.

Recent developments point towards an end to the loathed WWE spinner belt—news that should be music to the ears of complaining fans. WWE.com posted an article in which not only the author, but CM Punk, John Cena and The Miz bury the current look of the WWE Championship:

WWE.com joins the call of the WWE Universe on Facebook and Twitter, pleading for the WWE to abandon the current “Spinner Title” design and return to the pride and tradition radiated by past WWE Titles.

The WWE Title carried to ring today was created specifically for John Cena, reflecting a time when The Cenation Commander-in-Chief was rapping his way through SmackDown. However, while Cena has long since traded in the giant chain around his neck for dog tags, the Spinner design is still “kicking it old school.” Shouldn’t it have long since gone the direction of other classic personalized titles like Edge’s Rated-R Superstar Spinner modification and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s “Smoking Skull” Championship?

"

The argument that WWE's own website uses against the current championship design is simply far too logical and effective for there not to be some sort of ongoing behind-the-scenes discussion about changing the look of the title.

WWE.com's article was one of their "Bring It Back!" series, and suggested that WWE bring back any of the former WWE Championship designs. I'm in favor of the winged eagle belt, or even a completely new look, but what would you prefer to see, fellow Bleachers?
