Chris Paul Trade Rumors: New York Knicks Will Need a 3rd Team If They Want CP3
Despite the rumors that Chris Paul has requested a trade to the New York Knicks, the truth is, New York doesn't have nearly what it will take for the New Orleans Hornets to trade away their best player.
The Knicks only have Landry Fields, Toney Douglas and Chauncey Billups and his expiring contract to offer which won't get it done.
That being said, the Knicks will have to get creative if they want to land CP3 this season.
So that creativeness will have to be in the form of bringing in a third and maybe a fourth team in order to swing a huge trade that would bring Paul to Madison Square Garden.
Who would that team be?
I'm not too sure as of yet, but it would have to be a team with draft picks to spare and some young talent to give to a rebuilding Hornets franchise.
Billups' contract could be extremely attractive for a team that is one player away and who will be major players in next year's free-agent market.
Without a third and possibly fourth team in the mix for a trade, the Knicks have two other options:
1. Wait until the offseason and sign Paul then.
2. Hope, out of desperation, that the Hornets take whatever deal the Knicks can offer them and trade Paul anyway.
The second option is certainly a dream scenario that can only logically be dreamed up in the minds of Knicks fans.
We'll have to wait and see just how the Knicks will go about trying to get Paul to New York this season, but it won't be easy.
It seems to me the only way a Paul deal can work out is if another team is involved.
Put your GM caps on, and let me know logically how the Knicks can get this done!
