Mike Sherman Fired: Reports Say Texas A&M Will Part Ways with Head Coach

Richard LangfordDec 1, 2011

Texas A&M has reportedly decided to part ways with head football coach Mike Sherman. Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman tweeted the news on Thursday afternoon.

Sherman is in his fourth season as coach of the Aggies. He is 25-25 in his tenure with the Aggies. He rose the bar in 2011, as his team finished 9-4 and advanced to the Cotton Bowl.

However, they lost that Cotton Bowl and have been viewed as an underachieving disappointment this season.

The Aggies got off to a 5-2 start, and then the wheels began to fall off of the bus. They have since lost four of their last five games.

It has not been an easy stretch of games. Three of those four teams were ranked in the top 25. However, Sherman was brought in to win those kinds of games.

Compensation Details

The Aggies still owe Sherman, but it is not an extraordinary amount.

Kirk Bohls also gives us an idea of the numbers.

Looking Ahead for Texas A&M

Sumlin is a favorite for good reason. He has led Houston to an undefeated. They are likely headed to a BCS bowl game, and that would make them the first Conference USA team to do so.

Sumlin is a passing game savant. Houston is No. 1 in points scored this season, and that is largely due to a passing offense that is No. 1 in the nation by throwing for 449.7 yards per game.
