Bobby Valentine Video: Watch Bobby V Introduced as Bo Sox Skipper

Zachary D. RymerDec 1, 2011

A clubhouse of beer-drinking, chicken-devouring misfits is now being managed by an oddball who once wore a fake mustache and glasses in the New York Mets dugout.

Welcome to the latest rendition of the Boston Red Sox.

In case you haven't heard the latest rumblings from Beantown, former Mets and Texas Rangers manager Bobby Valentine is the new manager of the Red Sox. It took the club nearly two whole months to find a replacement for Terry Francona, but Bobby V agreed on Tuesday to leave his post as an ESPN analyst to take over.

The Red Sox officially introduced Valentine as the new manager of the Red Sox at a press conference on Thursday. If you missed that too, feel free to watch Bobby V's first words as a Red Sox in the above video.

Kidding aside, there's no mistaking that Bobby V was pretty emotional during the presser. He claimed to be "pretty damn excited" to be the new manager of the Red Sox, and he looked it.

Aside from that, Bobby V said all the right things. He said he was humbled, he made sure to point out that he is totally aware of the rich history and tradition of the Red Sox, and he expressed plenty of excitement over the talent the Red Sox have on their roster.

On balance, pretty typical stuff. We know Bobby V has it in him to be slightly more eccentric, but he played it safe in his introductory presser.

Is Valentine a good fit for the Red Sox? I'm going to say yes. He's definitely an odd choice given what we know about this front office, but the club needed to bring in a true baseball man in order to turn things around. You're not going to find a truer baseball man than Bobby Valentine.

And because the Red Sox hired him, it's apparent that they didn't.
