ACC Championship Game: Clemson Will Rebound and Expose Overrated Hokies

Brian MaziqueDec 1, 2011

The Clemson Tigers squandered an opportunity for bigger things when they laid an absolute egg on the road against North Carolina State and furthered the collapse with a loss at rival South Carolina.

Now, to salvage the great season they had, they must, and will defeat the Virginia Tech Hokies in the ACC Championship game.

The Tigers are lucky in a sense, as the Hokies have not been battle tested all year. They have defeated only one ranked team this season and have already lost their previous matchup with Clemson, 23-3, two months ago.

In that game, the Tigers came up with their best defensive performance holding the Hokies to only three points. Hokies star RB David Wilson did go for 123 yards on the ground, but he obviously didn't find the end zone.

The Tigers offense and defense has failed them over the past four weeks. In that stretch, they have dropped three of four and gone from a dark horse national championship contender to a team hanging by a thread for a BCS Bowl berth.

The Tigers match up well with the Hokies. The Hokies don't have the vertical passing game that the Wolfpack or Gamecocks presented.

Also, the Hokies were able to contain freshman sensation Sammy Watkins in the first game. That is a feat that won't likely be duplicated. Tahj Boyd must regain the control of the offense he had before the team hit this hiccup.

But most of all, this game is at a neutral site. All three of the Tigers' losses have come on the road. With the game taking place in Charlotte, NC, the Tigers should have a decent share of fan support.

This and the resurgence of Boyd will lead them to victory.
