Rolando McClain Arrest: Roger Goodell Must Drop the Hammer on Raiders LB

Gabe ZaldivarDec 1, 2011

Rolando McClain has been arrested. The more that we learn about the alleged incident, the more clear it becomes that Roger Goodell needs to come down with a vigilant hand.

Decatur Daily reports Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and three other misdemeanors Thursday by Decatur police in connection with a Wednesday night fight that injured a man.

The details of the encounter are still coming forward, but none of it looks good for a Raiders star that is supposed to be healing from an ankle injury that kept him from practice on Wednesday.

His ankle must have been good enough to get into an alleged altercation with someone and then fire off a gunshot close to that person's head.

The report states, "Officers arrived in the 1000 block of Skyview after receiving a report of gunshots at 10:20 p.m. One man was hurt in a “physical altercation,” a release from police said."

As for that "gunshot," Vittorio Tafur, who writes for The San Francisco Chronicle, tweets a more in depth description of where that came from.

Earlier this year, McClain was apparently fired at while home in Decatur. The obvious assumption is that this could be some form of retribution. That is, of course, a guess and can no way be substantiated at this time.

What is clear is that McClain's playing days are done, at least for now. That is what should happen as Commissioner Goodell weighs the information given to him.

Just at pure glance, McClain has an immense amount to explain. It is always amazing to see men who are given so much in the form of talent and opportunity continue to flush it all away because they can't stay out of trouble.

In this case, it looks like McClain was out actually looking for trouble. The man is a great defender and will be missed, but I have had it with this stuff. I am sure that he will play after some sort of suspension, but I am done.

I have decided I don't need to see him on the field ever again. Do as you please, Mr. Goodell.
