Deron Williams Will Never Stay with the New Jersey Nets

Mike MoraitisDec 1, 2011

It's funny how delusional New Jersey Nets fans have gotten with the whole Deron Williams scenario.

With the team set to move to Brooklyn for the 2012-13 season, they are dying to have a huge star on their team and that's why they traded most of their future for Williams last season.

The Nets are staking all their bets that the point guard will remain with the team after this season, but as evidenced by his denial of an extension, the chances are becoming more slim by the day.

New Jersey must make all the moves necessary during this season to ensure that Williams will stay. They need to land that other star that they can pair with Williams to make a triple threat when combined with Brook Lopez.

Problem is, the Nets threw all their top young players and any attractive pieces they had at the Utah Jazz last season in order to acquire Williams.

With nothing left to give, it will be almost impossible for New Jersey to land that big star this season, if there is even a team willing to make that kind of deal.

Rest assured, Williams will most certainly test the free-agent market after this season which spells disaster for the Nets. They won't be able to guarantee Williams a top-flight player to play next to and certainly won't be able to compete if the bright lights of Madison Square Garden come calling.

The risk will be too great for Williams to make any commitment to the Nets, whether it's this season or during the offseason. There is a high risk that the Nets won't make any major impact moves and Williams will be stuck on a perennial loser for the best years of his career.

Instead, if the Nets want any hope of a future in Brooklyn, they need to start shopping Williams for whatever right move is out there.

It is highly unlikely they'll do that unless a package that blows them away comes along and they are certain Williams won't be returning.

Until that happens, the Nets are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Williams and if he leaves after the season, they will be in major trouble moving into their new arena next season without a big name to lead the way.
