New Mexico vs. Boise State: Latest Spread Info, BCS Impact and Predictions

Alex KayDec 1, 2011

The Boise State Broncos are hosting the New Mexico Lobos this Saturday to cap off their season.

They are easily going to win and will finish another regular season at 11-1 and probably fail to make a BCS bowl.

Because of their loss to TCU, the Broncos have a very tough and hopefully luck-filled road to travel in order to be considered for the non-AQ spot or at-large bid in the Sugar, Orange or Fiesta Bowl.

New Mexico is just looking forward to new coach Bob Davie coming in and trying to help change the culture at the school and rebuild a program to one that can produce wins.

Keep reading to find out all you need to know about this regular-season finale game.

Where: Bronco Stadium, Boise, Idaho

When: Saturday, Dec. 3 at  p.m. EST

Watch: The Mountain TV, Direct TV 616

Spread: Boise State -48.5

Laying the points with the Broncos is the play here. Good teams simply crush New Mexico, as you can see by its 69-0 loss to TCU back on Oct. 22.

The Lobos are one of the worst teams in the nation, and the Broncos are looking to cap off their regular season on a high note and keep their BCS at-large dreams alive by squashing them by as many points as possible Saturday.

You simply can’t go the other way and take the 1-10 Lobos because they give up 41.4 points per game while scoring just 13.1 themselves, and those are mostly in games against teams much worse than the Broncos.

Over/Under: 61.5

Over is the play here and something you should highly consider parlaying with the Broncos to cover.

As mentioned before, TCU, a team that scores less per game than Boise, was able to drop 69 on the Lobos and didn’t give up a single TD. The Broncos should be able to put up that many if not more and could even conceivably give up a field goal or two.

Don’t mess around and take the under because Boise is going to be playing for more than just a win on Saturday. It wants to totally dominate and show voters one last time how good it is.

Key Injuries

New Mexico

CB Devonta Tabannah, QST (Knee): This true freshman played in six games this year and had 13 tackles before missing the last four games with a knee injury.

CB Jamar Taylor, DBT (Leg): The junior starting CB has missed two games and will probably miss a third with an unspecified leg injury. Boise should be okay without him versus this Lobos team.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

Boise State cannot win the Mountain West and will finish behind TCU in the conference because it lost to the Horned Frogs early in the season. This almost completely kills its chance at getting a berth in a BCS bowl this season.

It’s a very lopsided game, and winning here won’t do much to change the voters’ minds on Boise this year, which is currently No. 6 in the BCS polls.

The Houston Cougars are almost shoe-ins to win the non-AQ conference spot in one of the top bowls as Conference USA winners and being undefeated. They would have to fall to a weak Southern Miss team for things to change.

Keys to New Mexico win

Play the best game of their lives. This team is simply one of the worst in college football and has no chance of winning against a disciplined, well-coached Broncos squad.

It would take more than one miracle to see the Lobos come out on top on Saturday.

Keys to Boise State win

Play your game. The Broncos are vastly superior in every single aspect of the game and simply need to continue to execute.

They would have to do something glaringly and terribly wrong to even let this game get close.

Prediction

Boise State 72, New Mexico 3
