Rick Neuheisel Video: Watch UCLA Players Express Love for Fired Coach

Eric BowmanDec 1, 2011

The UCLA Bruins made the right decision in firing head coach Rick Neuheisel, but that doesn't mean the current players are pleased with it.

They know it's how things work, but Neuheisel has been their guy for a number of years, which is why this video is very touching.

The shouting and chanting of UCLA makes you forget about football for a moment and remember that Neuheisel was a mentor for these young men, and he meant a lot to them.

They're a family that will soon part ways, and it's only fitting the players show their love for their head coach at the last practice he'll have at UCLA. The Bruins will soon hit the road to battle the Oregon Ducks.

It's a great gesture by the players, and perhaps it means they'll play better for their coach in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship game. The last thing the Bruins need is to be remembered for getting blown out in the first ever conference title game.

Neuheisel was 21-28 during his time at UCLA, with his best season coming in 2009 when the Bruins went 7-6. To say that's the best record he had while coaching there is great evidence as to why he no longer has a job.

He was forced to deal with several injuries to his quarterbacks over the years, but it's no excuse for not preparing his team to be better. They never progressed under Neuheisel, and that's why he is out.

Job well done by the UCLA players here.

Too bad that might be the first time they've heard that all year.
