NBA Free Agents: Why Bucks Would Be Wise to Sign Caron Butler
Milwaukee isn't exactly a hot-bed or featured attraction for free agents. To attain a top tier or upper tiered free agent, they may need some level of familiarity to accomplish the deal.
Caron Butler is a Racine, WI native and the Bucks recently contacted his agent about acquiring the services of the 31-year-old swing man. Butler is a proven scorer, who can produce off the bounce as well as spot up and knock down the open shot.
Both of those skills would fit nicely next to Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut.
The Bucks have a difficult sell on their hands. While they have the cap space to bring him in, they don't necessarily offer the championship prospects it seems Butler covets.
Yahoo Sports is reporting that Butler may favor the Chicago Bulls because it would give him the chance to play with Derrick Rose and for a championship.
The Bulls may choose to use the chunk of what is a small amount of cash to sign a two guard, which would either mean no Butler or that he'd have to take a significant pay cut to sign.
The Bucks have to hope that scenario plays out for them. As long as Jennings and Bogut are healthy as well, a healthy Caron Butler would mean a definite playoff appearance for this team.
Scott Skiles and his defensive approach to development and coaching generally keeps his teams competitive. While his teams have usually lacked offensive punch, Butler would help remove that stigma.
