NFL Predictions Week 13: 3 Bold Predictions for Sunday's Games

Ryan PhillipsDec 1, 2011

I'm not one to get carried away and make crazy predictions week to week, but I think Week 13 offers an opportunity for me to step outside the box and make a few bold picks.

Several top teams face matchups that could be awkward for them, especially with the way the season has gone so far. We've seen some crazy upsets week-to-week and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.

So here are my picks for this weekend's craziness.

The New York Giants Will Test the Green Bay Packers

1 of 3

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a "bold" prediction, but with the way the New York Giants are playing and the way the Green Bay Packers have been rolling most experts are forecasting a blowout by Aaron Rodgers and company.

The Giants have lost three in a row and have been incredibly up and down all season. Their uneven play has taken them to 6-5 and they are sitting on the fringe of the playoff picture. They need a win on Sunday to stay in the race, and they welcome the 11-0 Packers to town.

For some reason I expect Eli Manning and company to play well and give the Packers their stiffest test of the season thus far. Will they end Green Bay's 17-game win streak? I'm not sure, but I expect the game to be close and I think Rodgers will be under pressure all night from New York's stout front four.

For the first time this season, the Packers will look vulnerable and it will give hope to future opponents that they can be beaten.

The Washington Redskins Will Beat the New York Jets

2 of 3

The New York Jets beat the Buffalo Bills 28-24 win Week 12 and quarterback Mark Sanchez threw a career-high four touchdown passes. While some saw that win as a turning point for him, I'm not so sure. The Jets' offense has been so inconsistent this season that I think they will take a step back on Sunday against the Redskins.

Washington will be at home and coming off a 23-17 road win against the Seattle Seahawks that snapped a six-game losing streak. While the Redskins have one of the worst quarterback situations in the NFL, they have finally found a running back as rookie Roy Helu has taken over the starting job.

Helu is ready for a breakout and I think it will come against the Jets. The Redskins have a solid defense and I think they will give Sanchez and the Jets enough problems that it will be a close game late. If that happens, anything is possible.

Maybe I'm a little nuts here but I think the Jets will get shaky late in a close game and allow the Redskins to sneak in and grab a victory.

The Arizona Cardinals Will Take Down the Dallas Cowboys

3 of 3

Here's a shocker for you, I think the Arizona Cardinals can and will take down the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13.

While they haven't played well for most of the season, the Cardinals have won three out of their last four after a six-game losing streak. They sit at 4-7 right now and welcome the 7-4 Cowboys to town on Sunday.

The Cowboys have won four straight and five of six, but they barely snuck by the Redskins in Week 11 with a 27-24 overtime win and on Thanksgiving they escaped with a 20-19 win over the Dolphins.

Tony Romo is a guy you can't really rely upon to come up big every week and he is due for a clunker of a game at some point. It will come this weekend and the Cardinals will take advantage and pull the upset.
