Each NFL Team's MVP Through Week 12

Scott L. HutchinsonNov 30, 2011

NFL fans nationwide love to predict which of the league's top playmakers will earn the honor of Most Valuable Player come season's end, but which player has been most valuable to each individual franchise this season?

It wasn't easy to narrow down, but here's a look at each team's MVP through 12 weeks of play.

Arizona Cardinals: Beanie Wells, RB

1 of 32

While Arizona has struggled this season, posting a 4-7 record through 12 weeks of play, third-year running back Beanie Wells has exploded onto the scene as one of the NFL's most promising young playmakers.

With 849 rushing yards, including two 200-yard performances under his belt so far, Wells has undoubtedly been the bright spot of the Cardinals' otherwise lackluster offense.

Despite fighting nagging injuries all season long, he's on pace to rush for well over 1,000 yards.

Honorable Mention:

Patrick Peterson, CB

Atlanta Falcons: Michael Turner, RB

2 of 32

Atlanta is in the midst of yet another impressive regular season, and running back Michael Turner has been a big part of it.

Ranked fourth in both rushing yards (948) and rushing touchdowns (eight), Turner has provided balance to Atlanta's pass-heavy offense, averaging 86.2 yards per game on the ground.

Honorable Mention:

Sean Weatherspoon, LB

Baltimore Ravens: Terrell Suggs, LB

3 of 32

While it's hard to choose just one MVP from Baltimore's tenacious defense, Terrell Suggs has to get the edge.

Suggs' nine sacks are good for seventh in the league, and his sheer intensity is enough to rattle opposing linemen.

He has been one of the league's best for several years now, and this season has been no different.

Honorable Mention:

Anquan Boldin, WR

Buffalo Bills: Stevie Johnson, WR

4 of 32

While his questionable antics have drawn criticism, it's hard to deny that Buffalo's Stevie Johnson is one of the NFL's most promising up-and-comers at the receiver position.

Twelve weeks in, the fourth-year Bill has racked up 54 receptions for 622 yards and five touchdowns, building upon the breakout success he enjoyed last season.

With running back Fred Jackson sidelined, the Bills will undoubtedly look to Johnson to make big-time plays from here on out.

Honorable Mention:

Fred Jackson, RB (Injured)

George Wilson, SS

Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton, QB

5 of 32

Carolina's first-overall pick has performed above and beyond expectations so far this season, emerging as an absolute star in the NFL.

While the Panthers have managed to win just three games, Newton has given the lowly franchise new life, racking up 3,093 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns, 464 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

His ability to move the ball both through the air and on the ground has made Newton a force to be reckoned with despite his inexperience.

Honorable Mention:

Steve Smith, WR

Chicago Bears: Matt Forte, RB

6 of 32

Chicago running back Matt Forte is one of the most multifaceted athletes in the game, and his numbers say it all.

As if his 985 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns aren't impressive enough, Forte has also recorded 52 receptions for 490 yards and one score.

He has long been one of the league's best kept secrets, but no one is overlooking No. 22 anymore.

Honorable Mention:

Lance Briggs, LB

Julius Peppers, DE

Cincinnati Bengals: Andy Dalton, QB

7 of 32

If Cam Newton is this year's Rookie of the Year, Cincinnati's Andy Dalton has to be a close second.

While his statistics haven't been mind-blowing by any means, the rookie gunslinger has lead the Bengals to a surprising 7-4 record and has them in the hunt for a playoff berth.

Along with fellow rookie A.J. Green, Dalton has emerged as a legitimate NFL talent.

Honorable Mention:

A.J. Green, WR

Geno Atkins, DT

Cleveland Browns: Joe Thomas, LT

8 of 32

Cleveland's season has been less than stellar, but offensive tackle Joe Thomas has once again reminded football followers everywhere that he is one of the best in the game.

While the Browns' offensive line has fallen victim to the injury bug this season, Thomas has remained the cornerstone of the unit, protecting Colt McCoy's blindside from the like of James Harrison, Terrell Suggs and the rest of the AFC North's top-tier pass-rushers.

Honorable Mention:

D'Qwell Jackson, LB

Joe Haden, CB

Dallas Cowboys: DeMarcus Ware, LB

9 of 32

DeMarcus Ware is racking up sacks like it's nobody's business.

What else is new?

Ware's 14 sacks make him the league leader in the category, and he isn't showing any signs of slowing up.

He's a force coming off the edge, and he's proving once again to be one of Dallas' most electrifying weapons.

Honorable Mention:

DeMarco Murray, RB

Laurent Robinson, WR

Denver Broncos: Tim Tebow, QB

10 of 32

Say what you will about his unorthodox style of play, but Tim Tebow has led the lowly Denver Broncos to five wins in his six starts, and his value to the franchise is unquestionable.

He does things his own way, rushing the ball more than any other quarterback and passing only when absolutely necessary, but as long as the Broncos are winning, Tebow will continue to be Denver's golden boy.

Honorable Mention:

Von Miller, LB

Eric Decker, WR

Detroit Lions: Calvin Johnson, WR

11 of 32

While his production has slowed as of late, Detroit's Calvin Johnson has had one of the NFL's single-best statistical season.

With four games still remaining in the regular season, Johnson has already recorded 12 receiving touchdowns and over 1,000 receiving yards, placing him among the very best in the entire league.

Simply put, "Megatron" is unstoppable.

Honorable Mention:

Ndamukong Suh, DT

Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers, QB

12 of 32

Aaron Rodgers isn't just the best player on the undefeated Green Bay Packers, he may just be the best player in the NFL.

Rodgers leads the league with 33 touchdown passes, while he also ranks among the top-three in total passing yards with 3,475 and passing yards per game 315.9.

Most impressively, the Super Bowl MVP has thrown just four interceptions this season.

Honorable Mention:

Greg Jennings, WR

Jordy Nelson, WR

Houston Texans: Arian Foster, RB

13 of 32

In just two short years, Houston running back Arian Foster has burst onto the scene as one of the NFL's most dynamic tailbacks.

With 805 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns and some awfully impressive receiving stats, Foster is without a doubt the Texans' No. 1 offensive weapon.

Considering Houston is down to their third-string quarterback for the remainder of the year, Foster's numbers could see a major spike as the season comes to an end.

Honorable Mention:

Johnathan Joseph, CB

Connor Barwin, DE

Indianapolis Colts: Pat Angerer, LB

14 of 32

The winless Colts don't have much to be proud of this season, but at least linebacker Pat Angerer can hold his head high knowing that he leads the NFL with 112 total tackles.

The second-year man out of Iowa isn't a big-name player by any means, but his skills on the field speak for themselves.

Honorable Mention:

Reggie Wayne, WR

Jacksonville Jaguars: Maurice Jones-Drew, RB

15 of 32

Maurice Jones-Drew has been Jacksonville's MVP for years, and this season is no different.

Despite playing for one of the league's biggest duds of a franchise, MJD has already rushed for over 1,000 yards and five touchdowns, almost singlehandedly keeping the Jaguars out of the "Suck for Luck" sweepstakes.

He doesn't get the notoriety that he deserves in Jacksonville, but Jones-Drew in unquestionably one of the league's top-five running backs.

Honorable Mention:

Paul Posluszny, LB

Kansas City Chiefs: Dwayne Bowe, WR

16 of 32

It's almost a miracle that anyone on the Chiefs has managed to have a respectable season, given the injury curse they seem to be under, but wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has once again proven to be an elite NFL wideout, regardless of who's throwing to him.

Bowe leads Kansas City in every receiving category with 55 receptions for 819 yards and four touchdowns, and he has easily been the Chief's biggest offensive weapon.

Honorable Mention:

Derrick Johnson, LB

Brandon Flowers, CB

Miami Dolphins: Brandon Marshall, WR

17 of 32

No surprise here.

Miami's Brandon Marshall is doing big things this year and he's well on is way to a fifth-straight 1,000-yard season.

Despite the Dolphins' struggles, Marshall has still managed to make explosive plays week in and week out en route to 850 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Honorable Mention:

Cameron Wake, LB

Minnesota Vikings: Jared Allen, DE

18 of 32

The Vikings are in the midst of a dismal 2-9 season, but defensive end Jared Allen continues to dominate opposing offenses week after week.

Allen's 13.5 sacks are good for second in the league, and he is without a doubt the cornerstone of the Minnesota defense.

Honorable Mention:

Adrian Peterson, RB (Injured)

Percy Harvin, WR/RB

New England Patriots: Tom Brady, QB

19 of 32

The man. The myth. The legend.

Tom Brady is posting yet another ridiculous statistical season in New England, passing for 3,627 yards, 28 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions.

Even more impressively, four of those interceptions all came in one contest early in the season.

He has always been one of the best, and that hasn't changed in the least bit this year.

Honorable Mention:

Rob Gronkowski, TE

New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees, QB

20 of 32

If you watched the New Orleans Saints dominate the New York Giants on Monday night, you know just how dangerous Drew Brees can be.

His leadership is unmatched, his football IQ is unbelievable and his league-leading 3,689 passing yards isn't too shabby either.

Honorable Mention:

Jimmy Graham, TE

Darren Sproles, RB

New York Giants: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE

21 of 32

If you haven't heard of Jason Pierre-Paul yet, you need to check him out.

The second-year defensive end out of South Florida has been a pass-rush machine this season, racking up 10.5 sacks, 50 total tackles and a forced fumble through 12 games.

Considering the fact that he plays alongside Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora, it's safe to say that JPP is learning from the best.

Honorable Mention:

Victor Cruz, WR

New York Jets: Nick Mangold, C

22 of 32

Nick Mangold is the powerhouse of New York's offensive line, and he may be one of the most irreplaceable players in the NFL.

He's got a great beard, too.

Honorable Mention:

Darrelle Revis, CB

Dustin Keller, TE

Oakland Raiders: Sebastian Janikowski, K

23 of 32

A kicker? Really?

Take a look at Janikowkski's six-field goal performance last week and you'll understand my reasoning.

"The Polish Cannon" was a first round draft pick in 2000 for a reason, and his value to the Raiders' franchise is hard to deny.

With star running back Darren McFadden sidelined for much of the season, Janikowski has stepped up his game in a big way and has contributed mightily to Oakland's scoring efforts.

Honorable Mention:

Tyvon Branch, SS

Kamerion Wimbley, LB

Philadelphia Eagles: LeSean McCoy, RB

24 of 32

The "Dream Team" has turned out to be a nightmare in Philly so far this season, but running back LeSean McCoy has been an absolute stud.

His 1,050 rushing yards are a league best, as are his 11 rushing touchdowns, and he has also racked up just over 300 yards receiving.

If only his teammates could pull it together.

Honorable Mention:

Jason Babin, DE

Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger, QB

25 of 32

He may not be Rodgers, Brady or Brees, but Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger is still a dynamic playmaker under center.

He's not the most graceful of athletes, but it's hard to argue with Big Ben's winning ways or his 3,070 passing yards.

If the Steelers go on to win the tight, three-way race in the AFC North, Roethlisberger will more than likely be the one to thank.

Honorable Mention:

LaMarr Woodley, LB

Mike Wallace, WR

San Diego Chargers: Vincent Jackson, WR

26 of 32

The 4-7 Chargers haven't had nearly the season they were hoping for, but star receiver Vincent Jackson has had a heck of a year.

The 6'5'' wideout has been Phillip Rivers' go-to guy all season long, recording 44 receptions for 825 yards and seven touchdowns.

He's been flying under the radar, given San Diego's struggles, but there is no doubt that Jackson is still an elite playmaker.

Honorable Mention:

Ryan Mathews, RB

Eric Weddle, FS

San Francisco 49ers: Patrick Willis, LB

27 of 32

Patrick Willis is an incredible talent and he has shown that once again this year, tallying 93 tackles, two sacks and an interception for the 9-2 49ers through Week 12.

San Francisco's surprisingly successful season has been due in large to their stout defensive play, and Willis is the best they've got.

Honorable Mention:

NaVorro Bowman, LB

Seattle Seahawks: Marshawn Lynch, RB

28 of 32

It isn't easy to pick a solid MVP candidate on a team like the Seahawks, but Seattle's Marshawn Lynch has had a relatively nice season through 12 weeks.

Lynch leads the team with 706 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, and he has been able to build upon the late-season success that he enjoyed in 2010.

Honorable Mention:

Earl Thomas, FS

Kam Chancellor, SS

St. Louis Rams: Chris Long, DE

29 of 32

The 2-9 Rams haven't done much to attract attention this season, but defensive end Chris Long has certainly turned some heads.

The four-year vet out of Virginia has recorded a career-best 10 sacks through Week 12, and he is quietly emerging as a dynamic pass-rushing weapon on the St. Louis defensive line.

Honorable Mention:

James Laurinaitis, LB

Steven Jackson, RB

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Williams, WR

30 of 32

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seen their season collapse as of late, losing five-straight and falling to an ugly 4-7 on the year, but wideout Mike Williams has managed to put together a quality season despite his teams' struggles.

As the No. 1 target in Tampa, Williams has pulled in 52 balls for 573 yards and three touchdowns.

Most impressively, he has recorded at least five receptions in seven different games, speaking volumes about his consistency as a pass catcher.

Honorable Mention:

Kellen Winslow, TE

Tennessee Titans: Jason McCourty, CB

31 of 32

Recording 85 tackles through twelve weeks is an impressive feat in itself, but it's even more impressive if you're a cornerback.

Tennessee's Jason McCourty has been a tackling machine all season long for the Titans and has also pitched in two interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble.

Honorable Mention:

Nate Washington, WR

Washington Redskins: London Fletcher, LB

32 of 32

He may be a 14-year vet, but Washington's London Fletcher still has some serious game.

Fletcher is second in the league in total tackles with 107, and he has also accounted for four turnovers on the year.

He's walking proof that age is just a number...even in the NFL.

Honorable Mention:

Fred Davis, TE

Ryan Kerrigan, LB

Brian Orakpo, LB
