UFC on Fox 2: Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis Set to Headline Event in Chicago
Originally scheduled for UFC 133, it now appears Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will finally meet at the UFC on Fox 2 event tentatively scheduled in Chicago.
Brett Okamamoto of ESPN.com broke the news early Wednesday morning.
The two were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 133 this year, but an injury forced Davis to cancel the fight.
Evans (16-1-1) went onto destroy Tito Ortiz and look the best we've ever seen him inside the Octagon. It will be interesting to see if Evans' new camp has made him that good or if it was just a bad night for Ortiz.
Davis (9-0) has risen to the ranks of a top prospect as a result of some impressive finishes. Davis manhandled Brian Stann and followed that up with a victory over fellow prospect Alexander Gustaffson.
"Mr. Wonderful" was last seen inside the Octagon against Antonio Rogerio Nogueria, where he emerged victorious after grinding out a decision.
Evans has been in search of his title shot since 2010 but injuries and waiting for then-champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua to return from injury prevented him for fighting for the title.
Twice this year he was supposed to face off against Jon Jones, but both bouts never materialized.
This bout will give us a good indicator of how both men would fare against Jones' wrestling. Jones is an explosive wrestler and striker.
Both Evans and Davis are fairly athletic and explosive in their own right, so who will make the biggest statement for a title shot in The Windy City?
