WrestleMania 28: 10 Questions We Need Answered Before April 1

Nathan GieseNov 29, 2011

It's not even December, and already the WWE has successfully got us looking forward to WrestleMania 28 in Miami, which is five months from now.

WrestleMania has been preached to us through and through since Rock and John Cena announced the night after this year's show of shows that they will compete in the headline event at next year's spectacle.

Never before have we looked forward to something so far away.  Never again will the same thing ever be able to be accomplished.

We already know Cena-Rock is set in stone, barring a tragic sequence of events that could cause the match to be called off, so now we look at the rest of the card and the possibilities that are upon us.

Undertaker's last WrestleMania, Chris Jericho returning, Daniel Bryan's possible championship match, etc.

All these stories have us foaming at the mouth just thinking about them.

There is a lot of speculation going on right now.  We really don't know anything about what's to come on April 1.

Truth is, there is a lot of uncertainty.  With uncertainty comes questions.

Here are some questions fans need to know the answers to before we can fully buy into the hype of the show.

What Will Be of the Diva's Division by Then?

1 of 10

Beth Phoenix is your current Diva's champion.

Her biggest competition right now is either Kelly Kelly, Eve or Alicia Fox, depending on who they decide to throw into the pot.

Questions Regarding the Diva's Division

Will Beth Phoenix still be champion?

Will the Divas of Doom still be joined together or will Natalya finally try to win the title for herself?

Are Kaitlyn and AJ going to be players in the division come April?

When will Kharma return and how immediately will she get a title shot?

My Take

*Beth Phoenix will no longer be the champion come WrestleMania.

*Natalya will eventually realize she can beat Beth Phoenix and try to win the title on her own.

*AJ will be a major player regarding the title, but Kaitlyn will have to wait in line.

*Kharma won't likely return in time to make it to WrestleMania and face either Beth or Natalya.  Considering she is due to give birth some time around February, it seems unlikely she will be up to the challenge to fight so quickly after delivering a child.

Will There Be a Cruiserweight Division Again?

2 of 10

Right now, there is no Cruiserweight Championship in the WWE, even though there really should be at this point.  There is so much talent in the WWE that has nothing to do right now but wait around for their turn at the mid-card scene, if that ever comes for them.

Tyson Kidd, Heath Slater, Hunico, Sin Cara, Primo, Epico, Justin Gabriel, Trent Barreta, Santino, Curt Hawkins, Yoshi Tatsu—the list can go on.

That's more than enough bodies to fill up a division.  Hell, that's more than the number of divas we see on a regular basis, and none of them really have anything to do right now.

Questions About a Possible Cruiserweight Division

*Will Justin Gabriel eventually have his chance at the Intercontinental Championship or will he be forced to try and impress until he finally gets the call?

*Is there a potential tag team with Hunico and Epico or are they merely there to help Sin Cara grow accustomed to the WWE style of wrestling?

*Will Sin Cara go down as the biggest bust signing in WWE history or will be finally be able to break through like they were hoping he would when they signed him?

My Take

*Gabriel will, in my opinion, reach the IC title scene by WrestleMania.  If not, his talents will continue to go to waste.

*Hunico and Epico could make for an interesting tag team but could be a huge fail with the fans.  While they bring excitement and ability to the ring, their gangster luche wrestling isn't the type of image the company should be trying to get across with these two.

It's pretty racist for one, and for two, with already a huge stereotype of Latinos in America, having them dress as thugs could make matters worse.

*Sin Cara has the ability to be great.  He just hasn't done anything to show he belongs in the WWE.  Hunico constantly shows hims up in the ring and can speak English.

They should have just given the gig to Hunico to play Sin Cara instead of bringing in two new guys when the original is worse than the replacement.

Will Rey Mysterio Be Healthy Come April?

3 of 10

Here's one that basically only has two questions to it.

*Will Rey Mysterio be around in April?

*If he is, who will he face in his possible last, or next to last, WrestleMania?

Mysterio has accomplished so much in his career and given his body to entertain fans.  For me, this should be one of Mysterio's final years in the business, as his body isn't helping him due to his small stature.

His knees are horrible, so flying around the ring year-round is close to being out of the question.

When Sin Cara signed on, there was talk of building up a huge feud between him and Mysterio, culminating in a little giant contest, possibly at WrestleMania.

This may be the last chance to get that match in and have it mean something.

Will Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler and Wade Barrett Move to Main Events

4 of 10

Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and Dolph Ziggler are three guys who are primed and ready to jump into the main event scene.

Barrett is trying to get back there after serving some time there last year as part of Nexus.

Rhodes is trying to get back after his last time served came while he was part of Legacy and was far from the main attraction of the group.

Ziggler is looking to get his first real taste of the big time after doing splendidly in his short run in January.

All three have great abilities that make up a brilliant main event star, and all three are at the top of their games right now.

Questions Regarding Barrett, Rhodes and Ziggler

*Will Rhodes ever drop the Intercontinental championship or will he continue his push while still holding the strap?

*Is the Barrett Barrage the next step to ensure Wade's place on the front line of SmackDown?

*When will Dolph Ziggler move past the United States Championship and towards the WWE Championship?

My Take

*Right now, Rhodes is in the perfect place.  He can hold the Intercontinental Championship but also attempt to make the jump to the World Heavyweight Championship.

He's got the skills to pull it off and should continue to do so until that tile is finally taken away from him.

*Wade Barret should never have left the main event scene to begin with.  Last year, he went from being one of the biggest stars in the company to a schmuck not being able to let go.

He formed a backup group as an attempted replacement for the one he lost.  Now, Barrett is back in full force and should be in the hunt for the world title in the very near future.

*Ziggler has proven time and again he is one of the best pure wrestlers in the business. He put on an instant classic with CM Punk last week and even pulled off the upset of Randy Orton this past Monday.

He should soon be looking good when it comes to discussions about the next challenger to the WWE Championship.

Will Chris Jericho Make His Return in Time for WrestleMania?

5 of 10

It's been over a year since we saw Chris Jericho get punted out of action by Randy Orton.  Since then, there has been plenty of speculation on whether or not he will return.

He's been very active on Twitter discussing is possible return, but all those tweets point to him either never coming back or having us believe he won't return, only to shock us all.

My money is on the latter.

Jericho is a tremendous talent that Vince McMahon obviously can't let slip through his hands anymore than he already has.

Questions Surrounding Jericho's Possible Return

*Will he return at all?

*If he does return, will he be heel, face or tweener?

*When he does return, will he try to prove once again he is the best in the world rather than Punk?

My Take

*Jericho will return.  It's just a question of when, not if.

*He's more suitable for a tweener role right now.  Fans love him too much for him to be constantly booed, but having him come back as a huge babyface doesn't make a lot of sense.

*Jericho will try and prove to Punk who really is the best in the world.

Will Alberto Del Rio Even Be Relevant by WrestleMania?

6 of 10

What a year Alberto Del Rio has had.

Royal Rumble winner, headliner of WrestleMania, Raw Money in the Bank winner and now a two-time WWE Champion.

That's a lot to accomplish in the span of a career, let alone a single year.

What has all that done for him with his standing amongst the fans? Absolutely nothing.  He's one of the biggest stars in the company, yet nobody seems to care.

His character is stale and overplayed, he's a cowardly heel, which happens far too often nowadays, and like Punk told him during a war of words, he's extremely boring to listen to.

It's almost as if every time Del Rio cuts a promo, he follows an outline and never goes beyond the bullet points.

A champion is suppose to be entertaining to some extent, to go along with his intimidation.  Del Rio has neither of those qualities right now.

Vince is still very high on Del Rio and thinks he could be the next big star in the WWE.  Problem is, nobody else agrees with him.

Questions for Del Rio's Push

*Will he be taken seriously anymore?

*Will he still be in the title hunt come April?

*Is he ever going to make that big impact we've all been waiting for him to make from day one?

My Take

*There just isn't enough time for Del Rio to reshape his character for fans to take him seriously, so that's out of the question.

*He won't be in the title hunt come April, mostly because there will be much better options.

*He has the capabilities of making a huge impact, we just need to wait and see if he fulfills them.

Pencil it in

Alberto Del Rio will be involved at WrestleMania, but right now it doesn't look as if it's going to mean a whole lot.

What Will Sheamus Be Doing During WrestleMania?

7 of 10

Sheamus should absolutely be involved with WrestleMania this year after being subjected to the dark match—United States championship match turned battle royal won by Great Khali—last year.

Certainly, Sheamus has made tremendous strides to dig himself out of the whole by winning the King of the Ring tournament last year.  He went from an epic losing streak to one of the most over faces in the business.

His talents are endless and he deserves to have a spotlight for the big show.

Questions for Sheamus

*Will he ever be involved with the world title picture?

*What's a guy with his kind of talents supposed to do if the title pictures are currently filled up?

My Take

*Sheamus should have instantly been in the world title picture once Mark Henry won the gold, but that was foiled by Big Show returning to seek his vengeance.

If he hasn't been placed in the title hunt as of now, he may have to wait a while for his time to come.

*What's the best way for Sheamus to show his stuff on the biggest show of the year?

Pencil it in

Sheamus will be in the return of WrestleMania's Money in the Bank ladder match.

Which leads me to my next slide.

Will the WWE Be Smart and Bring Back the Money in the Bank Match?

8 of 10

In order for WrestleMania to be as epic as the WWE is hoping it will be, they need to bring back the Money in the Bank ladder match.

Yes, this particular match has its very own pay-per-view, so adding it to WrestleMania could be a bit of an overkill of ladder matches in a year.

But look at the current setup of WrestleMania and look at the potential superstars who could be left off the card altogether or be placed in meaningless matches just to get them on the show.

Why not save the audience the agony of another 30-second eight-man tag team match and have the guys with nothing to do perform in a great match fans love to see?

Questions for Money in the Bank

*Who will be in the contest?

*Will this match actually happen or will it be another letdown?

My Take

*Right now, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Big Show, Mark Henry, Zack Ryder, Kofi Kingston, Justin Gabriel (if cruiserweight title doesn't return) and Drew McIntyre all have nothing to show for their abilities right now.

Let's give these guys their very own spotlight and let them kick off the show in grand fashion.

*While I don't see this match coming back, it should.  Look at how sloppily this past year's event was when it came to guys like Barrett, Kingston, Gabriel, Sheamus, Ziggler and John Morrison.

They were all in meaningless matches that didn't even need to be added to the card.  This is something that needs to happen to elevate the show to its highest possibilities.

Pencil it in (Hopefully)

Will We Get Kane vs. Undertaker to Steal the Show?

9 of 10

While many people don't want to see this match given both their ages, I would love to see this contest one final time.

Most like to think Taker should be battling Barrett, because it was he and his cronies that caused Undertaker to take that extended vacation during his buried alive match with Kane at Bragging Rights last year.

What most people forget is he was facing Kane, and that feud went to Kane in a landslide.

Undertaker's potential new hair to go along with Kane's possible mask return makes for a remake of one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history.

There are so many options for this match that it needs to happen.

Questions Regarding the Match Build

*Will Kane have his mask?

*What kind of stipulation will these two have?

*Will the streak live on or will it be buried by the very man who helped make Undertaker the man he is today?

My Take

*I certainly hope Kane has his mask back.  He was at the top of his game each and every night when he had the mask.

Once he removed it, all the mystery was gone and his character was never the same.  These two had great feuds when Kane had his mask, so why not bring it back for one last hurrah?

*This match could easily be a combination of many things. I'll give my stipulation in a bit.

*If Undertaker is going to wrestle more often, his streak will continue.  If he's calling it quits after this year, he will lose to Kane.

Will John Cena Snap After Hearing the Rock Get Better Reactions Than Him?

10 of 10

John Cena is easily the most hated face ever in the WWE.  The man that says and does all the right things just can't catch a break when it comes to fan reaction.

For weeks now, Cena has been playing off the fact he gets booed out of the stadium while The Rock, who deserted those same fans for seven years, gets instant cheers whenever his name is even mentioned.

Cena acts as if it doesn't bother him, but deep down he has to feel some sort of resentment towards the fans that use to cheer him but now side with Rocky.

The Rock caused many of Cena's fans to start hating him, and that has to stick in Cena's crawl at least a little bit.

He can act like it doesn't bother him all he wants, but eventually the calm, cool and collected Cena will realize there's nothing he can do to get fans on his side as long as The Rock is around.

Questions About The Rock and John Cena

*How many times will we see Rock make an appearance to help hype the match even further?

*What sort of comebacks will Cena have to retaliate to the man that brings it via satellite?

*Will Cena crack under the pressure and finally reveal some emotion in this match?

My Take

*I see maybe five or six video messages from Rock in the coming months, mostly just to bring the hype factor to a new level.  He'll show up to the show maybe once or twice, but don't expect more than that.

*Right now, it looks like Cena has nothing to go off of when it comes to comebacks.  He's clearly not as witty as Rock, which causes him to lose the war of words on a consistent basis.

*I fully expect Cena to break away from the Superman act and realize that the fans' reactions to him compared to Rock bother him more than he's letting on.

After all, how can fans take the side of the very man who left them high and dry for Hollywood and boo the man who has done nothing but been a consignment professional day-in and day-out?

Pencil it in

The Rock versus John Cena with Cena finally letting the fans get to him and showing far more aggressive personality in the months to come.
